Nutrition campaign highlights actions in the first 1000 days of life

DAVAO CITY, July 2 (PIA) – The National Nutrition Council in Davao Region launched the nutrition month celebration highlighting the fight against malnutrition and the focus on the first 1,000 days of life. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Maria Teresa Ungson bared in the One Davao Virtual Presser that the COVID19 pandemic has brought impact to the nutrition of individuals. Families had limited access to food, food items in the form of “ayuda” were insufficient to meet nutritional needs, maternal health services were affected, and physical inactivity and unhealthy behaviors increase. Although at the start of the pandemic, she said that local government units had efforts in providing nutritious food items as part of the “ayuda”. Fruits and vegetables were included in the food packs. Councilor proposes SenTro Mindanaw as inventors and innovators center

D AVAO CITY, July 1 (PIA) – Committee chairperson on education, science and technology, arts and culture of the 19th Davao City Council Councilor Pilar Braga proposed to the council designating the SenTro Mindanaw as Davao City’s Science Centrum and Venue for Inventors and Innovators. Guesting in the One Davao Virtual Presser, the councilor announced the said ordinance as the next bold step to implement the recently approved ordinance establishing the Davao City Inventors and Innovators Center. An old hand in Mindanao’s peacebuilding and development circles has expressed full support to the extenstion of the transition period of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). DAVAO CITY, June 30 (PIA) – About 10,000 government employees in Davao City are set to get inoculated starting today and is expected to run in the next three weeks. The Davao City Government called for interested sectors to help in the roll out of the national vaccination program. As the Davao City LGU is in the process of completing the vaccination for the A1, A2, and A3 Priority Groups, it has also allowed sectors to establish additional vaccination sites specific to cater their respective sector. Newly-built memorial dedicated to massacre victims

DIGOS CITY, June 30 (PIA) – A memorial was recently built in honor and in memory of the 39 Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe members who were massacred by the communist rebels 32 years ago in a hinterland cultural community in Sitio Rano, Barangay Binaton, this city.   The 32nd anniversary of the Rano massacre was remembered with the unveiling and inauguration of the Rano Memorial situated at Rimpong Tribal Village in Brgy. All systems go for Bakuna by the Sea

Freezer for the vaccines at the Waterfront Insular Davao vaccination site DAVAO CITY- It’s all systems go for Bakuna by the Sea, a vaccination program for Davao City’s tourism sector workers.   The vaccinations will start tomorrow, June 30 at 8 :00 a.m.  with the Grand Pavilion of the Waterfront Insular Hotel serving as the venue of the vaccination site.   An initial 2,000 doses of vaccines will be provided to jumpstart the vaccination of an estimated 7,000 tourism workers and and those working in allied establishments. The site will also accommodate members of the Davao City media for the vaccination.   Dubbed as Bakuna by the Sea (Vaccination by the Sea) the lush seaside tropical garden and coconut grove within the grounds of the Waterfront Insular Hotel will provide a resort-like ambiance to the vaccination.   The tourism sector vaccination is a multi-sectoral partnership between the City Government of Davao, the private sector spearheaded by the Davao Tourism Association (DATA) and
