Councilor proposes SenTro Mindanaw as inventors and innovators center

DAVAO CITY, July 1 (PIA) – Committee chairperson on education, science and technology, arts and culture of the 19th Davao City Council Councilor Pilar Braga proposed to the council designating the SenTro Mindanaw as Davao City’s Science Centrum and Venue for Inventors and Innovators.

Guesting in the One Davao Virtual Presser, the councilor announced the said ordinance as the next bold step to implement the recently approved ordinance establishing the Davao City Inventors and Innovators Center.

Braga explained that “the center shall serve as a venue for inventors, innovators and creative researchers to come together where ideas, innovations, and inventions can be fully developed, promoted and protected.”

The ordinance approved last April 20 was also envisioned to develop and promote local technologies to improve productivity, competitiveness and quality of life.

“I was surprised because I get to learn every time through the pool of inventors and innovators that we have their products and services that can really help the community. We just need to support them by providing them a center where they can develop and promote these product,” Braga said.

To save the city government from huge expenses of establishing a new and separate physical venue, Braga presented to the city council the offer of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to have SenTro Mindanaw as a shared space for learning and innovation.

“This unique character of SenTro Mindanaw makes it highly deserving to be designated as Davao City’s Science Centrum and venue for inventions and innovations in the spirit of RA 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act,” Braga added.

Following the approved ordinance, the official said that the council for inventors and innovators will soon meet to start up the implementation of the said local ordinance.

The creation of the said council, she said, will bring in formally and regularly representatives from the different offices, organizations, and companies to plot plans and activities as well as determine appropriate budget needed to further promote the goals of establishing and operating an inventors and innovators center.
