DAVAO CITY, Feb. 9 (PIA)—A total of 45 firearms were confiscated by the police in time for the election period. Major Eudisan Gultiano, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office XI bared that 45 firearms have been confiscated in the police operations while 33 persons were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. She told the AFP-PNP Press Corps said that 32 of these weapons were taken in violation of the COMELEC gun ban. However, Gultiano clarified that only a few of these firearms were confiscated in the checkpoints. “Most of the confiscations related to illegal possession of firearms during the election period was the result of police operation,” she said. Gultiano bared that there are a total of 3,563 checkpoints established throughout the region upon the start of the election period.
