DCPO seize 45 firearms during gun ban



DAVAO CITY, Feb. 9 (PIA)—A total of 45 firearms were confiscated by the police in time for the election period.


Major Eudisan Gultiano, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office XI bared that 45 firearms have been confiscated in the police operations while 33 persons were arrested for illegal possession of firearms.  


She told the AFP-PNP Press Corps said that 32 of these weapons were taken in violation of the COMELEC gun ban.  


However, Gultiano clarified that only a few of these firearms were confiscated in the checkpoints.  

“Most of the confiscations related to illegal possession of firearms during the election period was the result of police operation,” she said.  


Gultiano bared that there are a total of 3,563 checkpoints established throughout the region upon the start of the election period.


She revealed that there are 923 checkpoints in Davao Oriental followed by Davao de Oro at 823 checkpoints, Davao City Police Office at736 established checkpoints, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office at 539, Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office at 467 and Davao Occidental at 75 checkpoints. 


Gultiano said there are no more areas in Davao Region declared as under election watchlist aside from the ones released earlier.  


The Police Regional Office XI has placed six areas in the region under election watchlist of areas (EWAs) due to possible election-related violence namely. 


Pantukan and Monkayo in Davao de Oro; and Digos City, Matanao, Kiblawan, and Magsaysay in Davao del Sur. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)

Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles.
