Surviving Odette

Aftermath of a Category 5 typhoon (photo by Kara Ahorro) DAVAO CITY-   Kara Ahorro clearly recalls the traumatic memory of experiencing the wrath of Typhoon Odette, a category 5 typhoon which slammed into the island of Siargao in the early afternoon of December 16. When the typhoon came, Kara with her live-in partner Gani Rupido was just inside their house in General Luna. The couple decided not to evacuate. “It was forecasted to be just 150 kph   at its peak, We were here during Yolanda and that was 300 plus kph, though Yolanda did not made landfall in Siargao we just thought “ah kaya lang” (we can handle it),” Kara said. Davao de Oro extends help to Odette victims

Provincial information officer Fe Maestre distributes relief goods to the families in Surigao City NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro, January 4 (PIA) - - After sending help to Surigao City, the provincial government of Davao de Oro is now preparing relief goods for the people of Bohol, who are devastated by Typhoon Odette. Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy disclosed during the Monday Convocation that a second wave of assistance for Typhoon Odette victims is now being readied and will be transported anytime within this month. The Governor jokingly said that they chose Bohol since ‘daghan mag Bolanon dinhi.’ (there are many native of Bohol, who are here.) OCD XI calls for more relief donations for Odette-hit towns

DAVAO CITY, December 29 (PIA) – Following the two batches of mission caravan from Davao Region to the typhoon-hit areas in Caraga Region, the Office of Civil Defense XI continues to encourage  citizens to send in relief donations through the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council XI (RDRRMC). Speaking in the One Davao Virtual Presser today, OCD XI Assistant Regional Director Lenie Duran-Alegre enumerated the priority items needed in the typhoon-stricken communities. “ Some of the items needed by the communities are water, shelter kits, GI sheets, temporary tents, solar panels, and food,”   the official said to those who wanted to give cash instead may deposit thru DBP Camp Aguinaldo Branch: 000-001494353 (Philippine Peso) and 015000474354 ( US Dollar). DavOr placed under Blue Alert Status

DAVAO CITY- The Province of Davao Oriental has been put under Blue Alert Status with the arrival of Typhoon Odette in the country. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council placed the Blue Alert Status following the PRDMM meeting held earlier today (Dec. 16) and the Dec. 15 Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meeting. The Operation Center has been activated and is now serving as an Emergency Operations Center. Local Government Units and national government agencies has been directed to preposition manpower and equipment. Disaster Response Teams are now on standby for possible resource support and augmentation. The general public particularly living in danger zones near rivers and coastal areas are advised to take precautions and be vigilant. As of 11:00 am today (Dec. 16), No untoward incidents caused by Tropical Storm Odette have been monitored in the province. DavOr preps up for Typhoon Odette

DAVAO CITY, Dec. 15 (PIA)- The province of Davao Oriental is readying for the coming of Typhoon Odette estimated to make landfall on Dec. 16 in Eastern Visayas. Though not directly in the path of the typhoon,   province has been classified as medium risk and placed under Bravo Protocol. Under the Bravo Protocol the local government units are expected to send warnings, advisories, cascade preparedness directives, preemptively evacuate, activate selected response clusters, preposition resources, provide augmentation of resources. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council met on Dec. 14 for a pre-disaster assessment. Among the measures to be undertaken are the readying of available equipment and personnel particularly in coastal communities. The Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces have committed to augment the preparations thru personnel and equipment.
