DAVAO CITY, Dec. 15 (PIA)- The province of Davao Oriental is readying for the coming of Typhoon Odette estimated to make landfall on Dec. 16 in Eastern Visayas.
Though not directly in the path of the typhoon, province has been classified as medium risk and placed under Bravo Protocol.
Under the Bravo Protocol the local government units are expected to send warnings, advisories, cascade preparedness directives, preemptively evacuate, activate selected response clusters, preposition resources, provide augmentation of resources.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council met on Dec. 14 for a pre-disaster assessment. Among the measures to be undertaken are the readying of available equipment and personnel particularly in coastal communities.
The Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces have committed to augment the preparations thru personnel and equipment.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has readied its stockpile of food packs and essential kits while the Provincial Health Office has committed bed capacities in health facilities in case of emergencies.
Personnel of Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative (DORECO) will monitor areas during the expected landfall.
As precautionary measures the upcoming second phase of Bayanihan Bakunahan (National Vaccination Days) earlier pegged on Dec. 15 -17 has been rescheduled to Dec. 20-22. (PIA/RG Alama)
