DAVAO CITY, April 18 (PIA) - - A former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) exhumed on Monday his comrades’ remains in the hinterlands of Montevista, Davao de Oro.
The corpse was buried with a wallet and an identification card of a certain Reneboy Abiao.
Ka Nonoy disclosed that Abaio was his former comrade in the dismantled Guerilla Front 33 that operated in the provinces of Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro.
Abiao was killed by his companions led by Ka Hiker in 2019 because they accused him of being a government spy, Ka Nonoy revealed.
“Subay sa akong nahibalan kay wala ko aning panahon, wala ko nakakita pagpatay kay lahi nga team, ang sulti sa akoa sa akong mga kauban, gigapos nila tas gipatay kay gidudahan nila nga magtraydor sa ilaha,” said Ka Nonoy. (To my knowledge because I was not there when he was killed since it was handled by another team, my companions told me, that he was tied up then killed because he suspected him as a traitor to them.)
He said that he was demoralized at that time when he knew about the killing.
“Sakit pud kay siyempre kauban man mi tas kanang unayon lang bitaw, unya walay klarong hinungdan ba. Ingon ana lang kadali kuhaon ang kinabuhi.” (I was also hurt, of course, since we are comrades, and then members of your organization killed him without any clear basis. That is how they can easily take somebody’s life.)
Aside from the uniformed personnel, the mother of Abiao also witnessed the unburying of his son’s remains.
She said that it was five years since he last saw his son, and if it was not because of the army, she would have not known that Reneboy became an NPA member.
“Sakit gud pero makaya raman. Unsaon ta man nga namatay naman? Gidawat (nalang) na nako.” (It hurts but I can manage it. What else can we do? He’s already dead. I just have to accept it.) (PIA XI, Michael Uy)
