San Isidro associations receive livelihood programs from EO 70

DAVAO DEL NORTE, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- Two people's organizations in the Municipality of San Isidro received a livelihood program funding from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Sustainable Development Program (SLP) in response to Executive Order 70 or the Whole-of-the-Nation Approach signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The Igangon General Merchandise EO70 SLP Association in Barangay Igangon and the Barangay Monte Dujali General Merchandise EO70 SLP Association in Barangay Monte Dujali received early this year their seed capital funds to start their proposed livelihood programs for their constituents.

The turnover ceremony for the livelihood program to the beneficiaries of the Igangon General Merchandise EO70 SLP Association took place on February 8, 2022.

Meanwhile, the turnover ceremony for the barangay Monte Dujali General Merchandise EO70 SLP Association was held on February 11, 2022.

Both organizations chose to have a variety store where the members can alternatively serve as vendors and be compensated.

Municipal Mayor Arnel H. Sitoy emphasized the role of unity in getting the livelihood programs and projects from the government.

"Kung magkahi-usa lang gyud ta labi na sa mga membro sa cooperatiba naa gyud kay matagamtaman nga ayuda," (If we will just unite especially the members of the cooperative, we could really get assistance from the government), he said.

Sitoy also revealed his struggles before as a former barangay captain in Barangay San Miguel in looking and applying for government projects and programs to his constituents.

He said that it is much easier now to connect with government agencies and avail of assistance and livelihood programs for the people.

The EO 70's Sustainable Livelihood Program, or SLP, is a community-based program that offers low-income households with income-generating activities. The SLP aims to alleviate and eventually eliminate poverty by providing people with jobs and training, as well as assisting extremely low-income households.(PIA XI Davao del Norte/jmda/Ezri M.
