Bayanihan Bakunahan Round 2 set on Dec 15-17

DAVAO CITY, December 7 (PIA) – Following a call for a continuation of the recently concluded Bayanihan Bakunahan, the Department of Health Davao Region announced Monday that a Round 2 is scheduled on December 15-17.

In the DOH Virtual Presser, Vaccination Program Focal Dr. Janis Olavides bared another Bayanihan Bakunahan schedule which will highly focus on the vaccination of A2 or senior citizens population and the A5 or the indigent population.

“ In preparation for this, we are assuring our LGUs that we have the vaccines, syringes that we will provide to the provinces as additional to their logistics,” Dr. Olavides claimed.

She added that the call for another round of the Bayanihan Bakunahan did not just emanate from the DOH Central Office, but resulted from a call from the different LGUs which have seen that many individuals still lined up during the National Vaccination Days.

The DOH XI believed that the Bayanihan Bakunahan in the region may not have reached its target of the number of jabs within the three days, however, the DOH XI stressed that the nationwide vaccination event proved that each LGU can actually double their number of jabs in a day as long as different government offices and the private sector will contribute in the vaccination activity.

“Achieving the target was no easy task given the different factors experienced in the different areas. However, because of the hardwork of LGUs and the different sectors we were able to vaccinate 366,639 individuals or 48.7% of our target jabs in the 3-day vaccination report,” she said.

DOH XI reported that LGUs most LGUs exhibited doubling their daily jab capacity. Davao de Norte showed a 135% increase in the jabs during the Bayanihan Bakunahan with 37,774 vaccination in a day as compared to its previous highest daily jab which was only at 16,067 vaccination in a day.

Davao del Sur also increased its vaccination performance to 154%; Davao de Oro with 91%; Davao Oriental with 58%, Davao Occidental with 57%, and Davao City with an increase of 35% on its daily jab turn-out.

The DOH XI thanked LGUs which opted to extend their 3-day Bayanihan Bakunahan to additional 2 days to accommodate more unvaccinated individuals.

The Bakunahan nationwide activity allowed Davao City to vaccinate 80,783 or 54% of its Bayanihan target; Davao de Oro has vaccinated 49,483 (35%); Davao del Norte vaccinated 108,981 individuals (64%); Davao del Sur with 54,147 vaccination (40%); Davao Occidental with 25,809 vaccination (39%); and Davao Oriental with 47,370 vaccination (37%).

“This regional performance contributed to the country’s spot placing at the fourth highest in the most number of jabs in those days”, Olavides said.

The DOH XI reported that the Bayanihan Bakunahan was a success as it has ensured that people understood the role of vaccines in addressing the COVID19 pandemic; and that it has provided access to people by bringing the vaccines closer to the people. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
