Davao Pasko Fiesta holds Metro Davao Family Short Film Festival

DAVAO CITY - Six short films from Dabawenyo filmmakers will be screened online during the first Metro Davao Family Short Film Festival, one of the major activities of the 2021 Davao Pasko Fiesta (Davao Paskonline Fiesta).


Davao Paskonline Fiesta Festival Director Gatchi Gatchalian said the six curated short films are Christmas or Family-themed films.


These may be shorts but tall on message of love, hope and family. And thru this platform of films we want to inspire Dabawenyos families with the values presented in the curated films. And also we would want to showcase the creativity of our local filmmakers, these are really good, very touching films,” Gatchalian said.


The holding of the Metro Davao Family Short Film Festival is held in partnership  with the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation Inc. (MFTDFI) the organizers of the annual Mindanao Film Festival.


“These curated films were previous entries to the Mindanao Film Festival and they are made by our Dabawenyo filmmakers,”  Ivan Tadena, festival manager of the Mindanao Film Festival and co-curator of the Metro Davao Family Short Film Festival said.


The Metro Davao Family Short Film Festival will be held from December 24 to January 8. It will be streamed on the Davao Pasko Fiesta Facebook Page. 


The six short films are:


Halug”- Directed by Gian Enrique, the short film tells the story of a father on a quest to reach out to his estranged son.


“Dear Mama”- Written and directed by Albert Egot Jr.  The short is about Natoy, a young boy who writes a love letter to his mother


“The Promise”- In this short film helmed by Albert Egot Jr., a father will try to keep his promise no matter what it takes.


“Unos”- An animated short film by Arthur Mercader. At sea and in the midst of a powerful storm a father and his son battle it out with sea monsters.


“Package”- Short film by Sabrina Pilones, a group operates a clandestine mission during Christmas.


“Replay” – Written and directed by Franky Arrocena.  Thru video-call an OFW mother keeps in touch with her daughter in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. The Darong Import Facility has a rated capacity of 67-million liters of petroleum products.   The import facility will help and promote business continuity and stability in the area by providing needed fuel resources for mobility during storms, floods and other calamities.
