DAVAO CITY - The province of Davao de Oro will start the vaccination of children aged 12 to 17 years old with comorbidities on October 29, 2021.
Provincial Vaccination In charge and Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Mary Cyrel Pasaol disclosed that the vaccination for this vulnerable group will be done at the four Davao de Oro Provincial Hospitals.
“Hospital base ni ang pagbakuna kay unang-una, naa tay mga medical specialists and pediatricians sa atong mga hospitals; and ikaduha, since ang kaning age group kay ginaconsider as vulnerable group,” Dr. Pasaol said. (This is a hospital-based vaccination because first, we have medical specialists and pediatricians in our hospitals; and secondly, since this age group is considered as vulnerable group.)
Dr. Pasaol encouraged the parents, guardians, or those persons belonging to this group to visit their Rural Health Unit or the Municipal Health Office to register for the vaccination.
She said that the requirements that will be brought during the vaccination are (1) a Medical Certificate detailing the comorbidity, (2) a document to verify the relationship of the parent or guardian and the child to be vaccinated like a birth certificate, and (3) valid ID of the vaccine recipient, and the parent or guardian.
According to Department of Health (DOH) Circular No 2021-0464, comorbidities included in this sector are medical complexity, genetic conditions like Down’s Syndrome, neurologic conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorders, Metablolic/Endocrine diseases like Diabetes Mellitus/Insipidus, Cardiovascular diseases like hypertension, Obesity with body mass index more than the 95th percentile for the age and height, HIV Infection, Tuberculosis, Chronic Respiratory Diseases like Bronchial Asthma, Renal Disorders like Chronic Kidney Diseases, Hepatobiliary diseases like Chronic Liver Disease, and Immunocompromised state due to disease or treatment.
Dr. Pasaol stressed that the parent or guardian should accompany the child/ren during vaccination.
The vaccination in charge also bared that Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be inoculated to this vulnerable sector since these are the only vaccines with Emergency Use Authorization for this group.
Pasaol said that as of October 26, 23% of the population of Davao de Oro have been fully vaccinated. (PIA XI, Michael Uy)
