Davao City Mayor Sara commits support for PIA

PIA Director-General Mon Cualoping in an online meeting with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte

DAVAO CITY, July 5 (PIA)--- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte recently expressed commitment to help push a proposed law designed to “strengthen the mandate of PIA as information and communications agency not just of the President but the entire bureaucracy.”

In her recent online conversation with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Ramon L Cualoping III in Davao City, Mayor Duterte recognized the need for PIA to be given the necessary support to roll out public information up to the local government level. “

So when you do submit your proposal to Congress, let us know so that if there is anything you need, to assist you inside the House of Representatives, we will do that Sir,” she told Cualoping who shared her the vision for PIA to become the anchor communications and information arm of the entire government.

Mayor Duterte had seen the relevance of PIA’s mandate, and how it had carried out its services especially at the onset of COVID-19 pandemic when government responses had yet to fully run.

“We know the hard work of PIA especially during COVID (the pandemic); dako kaayo sila ug tabang sa amoa diri sa Region (They are of immense help here in the Region). Last year, kadtong dili pa kaayo organized ang atong response, paspas sila nga nakapasabot sa mga tao (Last year, when our responses were not yet fully organized, they start fast on making people understand) what the government is doing. Thank you very much,” she expressed her gratitude to Cualoping.

On the other hand, Duterte also appreciated Cualoping for coming up with a “striking logo” on his #ExplainExplainExplain advocacy. In his online presentation to Mayor Duterte, Cualoping put premium on his #ExplainExplainExplain engagements nationwide to counter misinformation and disinformation seen to have destroyed the well-meaning narratives of the government.

“My advocacy really Ma’am, is to #ExplainExplainExplain things para mas masabtan jud sa mga tawo; because knowing is merely the first step, but making people understand actually makes everyone truly empowered, making the growth of our country truly, inclusive.”

He pointed out as best to make people understand well, the programs and projects of the government. Cualoping had so far gone to 238 LGUs, waging #ExplainExplainExplain. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)

Though we are young, though we are still around two-years old from the time we were launched, I say we are fortunate because we did not start from zero. We were a campus of SPAMAST such that there wer...
