Davao Region has 53 active trafficking-in-persons cases



DAVAO CITY, May 26 (PIA)—Davao Region has 53 active Trafficking-in-persons cases being heard in courts according to Assistant Regional Prosecutor Gladys Joy Almazan-De Leon, in the first Law Enforcement Quarterly meeting of the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking held at the Women and Children’s Protection Unit Office at the Police Regional Office XI headquarters in Barangay Buhangin.

 

She said that top-notcher is Davao City with 30 cases, followed by seven cases in Digos City, Davao del Sur and five cases in the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.

 

Almazan-De Leon said Panabo City, Tagum City, Davao de Oro, Mati City, and Davao Occidental have one case each.

 

“If you notice, in our records as of March 2022, there was no TIP case in Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte,” she said.

 

Almazan-De Leon said these TIP cases are currently handled by the law enforcement agencies under the Police Regional Office XI, Talomo Police Station and the National Bureau of Investigation anti-human trafficking division.

 

She said there are case respondents who face two to three cases related to trafficking in persons.

 

Almazan-De Leon bared many other agencies who handle trafficking-in-persons complaints like the Mindanao Field Unit of the Women and Children Protection Unit, PNP-San Pedro Police Station, PNP-CIDG, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Bureau of Immigration, and PNP Igacos.

 

She also revealed that as of March 2022, three cases were referred to the IACAT-Once by the Tambayan Children’s Rights, PNP-CIDG and the Sasa Police Station for case build-up.  (PIA XI- Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)

LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro.
