DCPO all set for May 9 polls

DAVAO CITY, Apr. 27 (PIA)—The Davao City Police Office is all set for the local and national elections on May 9.

Colonel Alberto Lupaz, acting director of the Davao City Police Office told members of the AFP-PNP Press Corps that the local police is already 100 percent ready for the holding of the national and local elections.

He said 80 percent of the local police force will perform election-related duties while the 20 percent will man the police precincts.

“I’ll assign two policemen in every polling precinct, and I’ll add more policemen on areas with clustered polling precincts,” Lupaz said.

He said the police will also beef up the security in the polling precinct, particularly at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School where President Rodrigo Duterte votes.

Lupaz revealed the police is ready with the movement of the vote counting machines which might commence on May 1.

“Once the VCM is delivered to a specific area, the police will guard it, and will no longer leave the place where the VCM is.  Davao City has a total of 182 barangays with 263 polling centers, and 1,211 clustered precincts” he said.

Lupaz bared that the city belongs to the green category in the election classification which means the area is free from terror-threats and any other criminality related to the elections.

He said the city police remains ready and on guard against disasters due to the weather condition that might impact on the national and local elections.

Lupaz assured that there is nothing to worry as far as loose firearms are concerned since most of the firearms are owned by responsible gun owners.

He said many gun-owners in the city prefer to temporarily surrender their weapons to the police precinct which has their jurisdiction.  (PIA XI/Joey Sem Dalumpines)
