Village chief thanks PRRD for barangay development projects

DAVAO CITY, March 28 (PIA) – The village chief of Barangay Gubatan, Maco town, in the province of Davao de Oro never thought that his barangay could receive P20 million worth of development projects.

Guesting in the One Davao Virtual Presser, Punong Barangay Arniel Fernandez shared that Barangay Gubatan got a P3 million project for electrification for two “puroks” which were never reached by the power providers due to lack of funding.

Areas which also had problem on road access were addressed with the opening of farm to market roads and road concreting projects.

Fernandez bared that the electrification project has already reached 75% completion; road concreting project is now at 70% completion while the farm to market road projects are already completed.

“I get to pass by the area where we built the farm to market road. I got emotional seeing that our dream to have that road finally turned into a reality. I thank President Rodrigo Duterte for that.”

Fernandez attributed the credit to the PRRD who was the chairperson of the National Task Force Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict or NTF ELCAC.

“ The ELCAC is the President’s best legacy. We have solved insurgency and development projects were poured in GIDA areas,”  he shared.

The Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP) was approved to ensure that efforts initiated thru the Executive Order 70 or ELCAC will be sustained and good governance will be translated and felt up to the barangay level.

The barangay official narrated that the involvement not just of barangay functionaries but also by the sectoral representatives and even the former rebels was ensured to make an inclusive planning process.

“ The government proved to everyone that all of us have our own place in deciding for the projects in the barangay.”

In August 26, 2020, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) visited the barangay and conducted the “Ugnayan sa Barangay” where participants get to join in the field group discussion and provided inputs for what projects will need high level of priority.

Fear and inhibition of an individual towards the government was one of the resolved issues brought about by the process.

“ Here, we have seen that the government reached out to the people and proved that services are within their reach. The government, indeed, is here for us.”

Meanwhile, DILG XI focal for the SBDP Engr. Charito Cinco reported at the One Davao Virtual Presser last week that for the 2021 SBDP, which consists of 607 total number of projects in the Davao Region, 11 percent are already completed; 36% are ongoing; 32.3% are now on the early preparation stage; while 18% of the projects have already proceeded to the procurement stage.

These development projects consist of farm-to-market road; water and sanitation system; agricultural, livelihood and technical vocational trainings; assistance to indigent individuals or families; COVID19 vaccination, immunization and other health related projects; health station; and housing.

These projects are all set to be completed this year.

Another set of insurgency-cleared barangays are scheduled to benefit their own development projects with these year’s new fund allocation for SBDP. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
