MALITA, Davao Occidental, Mar. 22 (PIA) – The most-awaited Davao Occidental General Hospital has been opened to start providing medical services to the constituents of the province and nearby towns.
Senate Committee on Health Chairperson Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go graced the soft opening of the first general hospital located in Barangay Lacaron in the municipality of Malita.
The establishment of the Level 3 hospital in the province was materialized through Republic Act 11568 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on June 24, 2021.
The general hospital has a 100-bed capacity and with a funding of almost P100 million under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health.
With the presence of the DOGH, Go expressed his happiness for the residents, especially the less fortunate, who can now have easy access to a more improved medical, hospitalization and emergency services.
“Ako’y masaya dahil aside from being the sponsor nitong establishing the Davao Occidental General Hospital, naisakatuparan na itong hospital na ito at pinaghirapan natin ito… Alam ko yung hirap, 200 kilometers away. They have to travel to Davao City para lang magpagamot,” Go stated in an interview.

Davao Occidental Congresswoman Lorna Bautista-Bandigan bared that three operating rooms are now operational and that their medical consultants and specialists are ready to serve.
“Ako ang unang pasyente nga magpaopera sa akong tuhod (I’ll be the first patient to undergo knee operation here,” the Congresswoman shared in her message.
Bautista-Bandigan said that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has initially given 149 regular positions for the DOGH.
She also mentioned a plan to develop the general hospital into a state-of-the-art facility.
“Actually, we are the second from SPMC and in Mindanao... dili ko manghambog ninyo, but nag ambisyon ko na maging state of the art, it’s like a global hospital in Taguig and Pasig,” she stated.
The Congresswoman expressed her gratitude to Go and President Duterte for approving the establishment of the hospital in the province.
After the opening rites last week, Go has turned over a total of P80 million worth of cheque as financial assistance for the necessary medical equipment and apparatus of the hospital.
Go together with Senator Joel Villanueva also distributed meals, grocery food packs, medicines and vitamins and face masks in the barangay.
A total of 20 bicycles, 20 computer tablets for students and 20 pairs of shoes for men and women were also given to the residents via raffle draw. (PIA-XI/Franchette Delfin)
