Davao de Oro to beef up security for May 2022 elections


DAVAO DE ORO, March 22 (PIA) - - Security will be beefed up in the province of Davao de Oro for the National and Local Elections on May 9, 2022.


In an interview, Police Colonel Leonard Luna, provincial director of Davao de Oro Provincial Police Office (DDOPPO), disclosed that at least two security personnel will be deployed per voting center or school in the province for the election.


According to the data from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Davao de Oro has 508,221 registered electorate to vote in 791 clustered precincts located in 287 voting centers or schools.


“Together with COMELEC and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), we have a workshop para mapag-usapan ang personnel na ideploy naming especially those in the high-risk areas in terms of insurgency, doon sa mga GIDAs (geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,” Luna said.


Police Col Luna added that AFP personnel will be assigned in conflict-affected areas.

 

Data from the 1001st Infantry Brigade shows that military operations are ongoing in the hinterlands of Mawab, Maco, Mabini, Pantukan, Maragusan, and New Bataan.


The police director also stressed that as of this writing, the province is generally peaceful despite the election-related activities.

Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles.
