DAVAO DE ORO, February 16 (PIA) - - Although the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has disturbed the lives of the people, Maragusan still finds blessings amidst the pandemic.
Maragusan Mayor Maricel Colina-Vendiola revealed during the Network Briefing News that the town was made even more popular during the pandemic because of its vegetables, and tourism sites.
“During the pandemic, aside from tourism, naging known din po kami as basket of high-valued vegetables,” Mayor Vendiola said.
According to the mayor, three former communist insurgency infested barangays are now producing cabbage, onions, bell pepper, chayote, and eggplant. These barangays are Mabugnao, Langawisan, and Bahi.
Mayor Vendiola also disclosed that due to the road projects in the area from the national government, the vegetables have reached as far as the island of Luzon.
“Umaabot po ang mga vegetable namin sa Tacloban, (at) Bicol. Meron po kaming mga local farmers, they have contacts, buyer from there,” mayor said.
Among the projects of the national government that developed the roads in Maragusan, the mayor underscored the Build Build Build program, Barangay Development Program (BDP), and the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agriculture Development (MinSAAD).
The chief executive also said that together with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), they set up a ‘Bagsakan’ center for vegetables in Barangay Katipunan.
On tourism, the mayor featured the natural landforms in the town such as waterfalls, cold and hot springs, and sea of clouds.
As of today, Maragusan has five private view deck operators highlighting the sea of clouds.
Aside from these, the mayor also invited the public to visit the town’s Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Park, a sanitary landfill turned into a tourist attraction.
Vendiola also said that one of the park’s attractions is a facility, which made bricks from plastics, and glasses. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
