DepED-XI eyes return of face-to-face classes



DAVAO CITY, February 21 (PIA) The Department of Education XI contemplates of returning the face-to-face classes now that the city eases the restrictions under the alert level II of the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19.


However, Jeneilito Atillo, spokesperson of the Department of Education XI bared they have yet to determine the terms based on the safety school assessment tool. He said this tool will emanate from the school environment in itself with the purpose of assessing the readiness of the school to conduct the face-to-face classes gauging its facilities and the capacity to handle the classes. 


Atillo underscored those teachers must be fully vaccinated.  


He said that face-to-face classes may be handled on the alert level I and II but will automatically stop when the alert level III is declared by the IATF and would revert back to the use of modules and online classes.   


Atillo stressed the DepED also need to get the nod of the local government unit for holding of the face-to-face classes.  


Assistant Regional Director Dr. Gerna Manatad of the Department of Health XI cited the coordination between and among the local government units, Commission on Higher Education, owners of the schools, the Department of Education for the resumption of the face-to-face classes.  


She disclosed these agencies have to comply with the requirements before going to the face-to-face classes.  


Manatad bared there is also a need to monitor the trend of COVID-19 cases in a given area before the Department of Health XI can make a recommendation for the resumption of face-to-face classes.  


“Based from experience of other regions, face-to-face classes follow a phase, we look at the cases in the region and in the country and even globally,” she said.  (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Nickel mining site in Mati outside of protected areas

MATI CITY, DAVAO ORIENTAL- The nickel mining site of the Austral-Asia link Mining Corporation and Hallmark Mining Corporation is located outside of the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary and the Pujada Bay Seascape and Landscape. In a statement, the local government unit of Mati City said that the mining area is “four kilometers away from the boundary of the Pujada Bay Seascape which is a protected area and is also outside the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary which is a Unesco-heritage site.” The mining site located in Barangay Macambol in Mati City comprises a total area measuring 17,215.49 hectares.
