Davao Occidental rolls out vaccination for 5-11 years old

MALITA, Davao Occidental, Feb. 15 (PIA) – The vaccination rollout for the 5-11 years old group in Malita, Davao Occidental went smoothly on Tuesday (Feb. 15) at the New Malita gymnasium where kids got to pose for posterity with cartoon character standees and watched the film “Frozen” after getting vaccinated.

As of 3:00 p.m. on same day, 210 children mostly from Barangay Poblacion in Malita received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on the first day of vaccination for this age group in the province.

Davao Occidental Provincial Health Office Chief Dr. Anne Margaux Bautista-Quezada said that 1,300 doses of the Pfizer vaccines were allocated for the provincial launch of the pediatric vaccination.

"Very receptive. Some of them are really excited… At five in the morning some kids are already ready, super excited,” Bautista-Quezada shared in an interview on the reception of parents and their children on the vaccination against COVID-19.

So after ng province mag inoculate, the different municipalities will all start na and the hopefully mas madami ang makukuha or magpapabakuna sa kanila (After the province will administer inoculation, the different municipalities will start and hopefully there will be more who will be vaccinated," she said.

Ludivina Fernandez, who accompanied her five-year old and 10-year old children on the vaccination site, said that she wants to be assured that the immune system of her kids be boosted and for them to be prepared for the face-to-face classes.

Bautista-Quezada said that the acceptance and willingness of the residents to get inoculated has improved, especially since vaccination cards are being required in business establishments and in entering the province.

"With the alert level 3, in terms sa vaccination mas nagpapabakuna sila ngayon kasi nga hinahanapan namin ng vaccination cards even at the business establishments, how much more kapag papasok pa ng Davao Occidental. Hahanapan ka talaga ng vaccination cards."

The PHO official also mentioned that they are assisting the municipalities to hasten the vaccination, especially in far-flung barangays.

The PHO and the local government units have also continued with the vaccination for the 12 years old and above with corresponding schedules. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
