Wear facemasks correctly- Coun. Bonguyan

DAVAO CITY, Jan. 21 (PIA)—A city councilor urged   the public to be extra-careful nowadays by wearing correctly the facemasks to avoid exposure from the COVID-19 infection.

Councilor Louie John Bonguyan, chair of the committee on energy of the 19th City Council said COVID-19 infection has different symptoms ranging from flu-like symptoms to sinusitis.

“I’ve observed some would wear mask with their nose exposed.  They can get the virus or they themselves cause transmission, “Bonguyan said.

He said a resident must double the masks he wears and have themselves vaccinated or get booster shots, because of the rapid transmission of the COVID-19 infection.

Bonguyan bared that 90 percent of the people confined at the Southern Philipppines Medical Center is unvaccinated.

He confirmed having two vaccination roll outs already in his areas of responsibility like Buhangin Proper, Waan, Mandug, four barangays in Paquibato District particularly Pandaitan, Tapak, Colosas and Salapawan.

Bonguyan said that on January 22, there will be a vaccination roll out in Barangay Mandug.

He revealed that the vaccination roll out is different from last year, because in 2022, they give the first dose, second dose, booster shots, and pediatric vaccination catering to everyone except those belonging to eleven years old and below.

“As long as the vaccines available from the first dose vaccine, we give the second dose of vaccination,” he said.

Bonguyan stressed they also consider the distance of the barangays to each other in giving the vaccines.

He observed that  Buhangin Proper is one of the most problematic areas of his assignment being the most highly populated barangays in the city which is often included in critically risk areas.

Bonguyan said the barangay needs to vaccinate 50,000 residents in the area to attain herd immunity.

He said with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, transmission is imminent.

“We could not lockdown this barangay because of its many ways to get in and to get out,” Bonguyan said.

He observed the Southern Philippines Medical Center is located in Buhangin Proper, and whoever becomes COVID-19 positive at the SPMC would also be taken in as data for Barangay Buhangin Proper.

On January 25 and 26, Bonguyan said they will cater to Barangay San Isidro, in Bunawan for second dose for Astra Zeneca.

He said first dose was conducted in December, being the least to be vaccinated in the number of residents.  (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
