Livelihood checks rebellion, Gov Jubahib says

Davao del Norte Gov. Edwin Jubahib

DAVAO DEL NORTE, 26 Jan. (PIA) - Providing livelihood and income opportunities can save marginalized folks from joining rebellion, Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib pointed this out as he bids to sustain income-generating programs in support to ending local communist armed conflict.

In his first term stint as the provincial governor, he noted the importance of sustainable livelihood program involving backyard animal raising  or livestock production, vegetable  gardening, planting of fruit trees, among others.

“Nakikita ko na ito yong yong importante na meron silang kita. Sino ba ang magagalit sa gobyerno kung buwan-buwan may kita sila?,”he pointed out.

He said the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte wages implementation of KAAGAPAY (Kausa sa Agrikulta ug Panginabuhian sa Barangay)  which basically provides  agri-based livelihood and income-generating opportunities especially for those in marginalized communities.

“Kumikita ang mga masa, ang mga walang trabaho. Kahit hindi ka pa NPA tinutulungan ka na gobyerno na magkakaroon ng sustainable livelihood.  (The masses are earning and those who are out-of-jobs.  The non-NPAs are also assisted to attain sustainable livelihood.), he said.

To his mind, Jubahib surmised that there would no longer be reasons to rebel against the local and the governments which he said, have been working closely to provide the  needs of former rebels, and to check socio-political and economic issues rooted by those espousing local insurgency.

“Ang gobyerno ay seryoso para matulungan sila (The government is serious in helping them),” he said as he vowed to  continue supporting national government programs on livelihood and economic opportunities, for peace and development and the program on addressing local insurgency.

On the other hand, Jubahib revealed having allotted this year PhP 2.7 million each to six far-flung remaining Talaingod villages or sitios which are yet to have community access roads.

Roads to far-flung villages in Sto Tomas and in Kapalong will also be constructed in cooperation with Engineering Brigades of respective Philippine Army commands in the said areas, the  Governor said.  (PIA XI/Jeanevive Duron Abangan)

Though we are young, though we are still around two-years old from the time we were launched, I say we are fortunate because we did not start from zero. We were a campus of SPAMAST such that there wer...
