IP student dorm, multi-purpose facility to rise in Talaingod



DAVAO DEL NORTE, Jan. 31 (PIA) – A dormitory for Ata  Manobo IP students  of Talaingod will soon rise thru the joint effort of the municipal government, the 56th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army,  and the 534 Construction Engineering Battalion.

 

Cooperating military units with Talaingod local chief executives led by Mayor Jonnie Libayao recently conducted a ground breaking ceremony and turnover of lot at Purok 6-B, Brgy. Sto.Nino, Talaingod Davao del Norte.

 

In a phone query, 56th Infantry “Tatag”  Battalion commander, Lt Col  Osmalik Tabayan said LGU Talaingod turned over on January 25  the 2.6-hectare parcel of land for the student dormitory and a multi-purpose facility that the Tatag Battalion intends to develop. 

 

He explained the project as part of the Tatag IP Students’  Support Program that the 55th Inf Battalion is conceptualizing and will be pursuing in partnership with  the private  and civic sectors.

 

“We want to  provide IP students an  atmosphere conducive for learning,” he said in a phone interview during which he explained that the program, and the intended projects therein form is geared towards sustaining the delivery of services to former rebels whom the local and national government have successfully led to come  to the folds of the law.

 

Aside from the dormitory, other facilities to rise on the donated lot will include those for sports  and staff house of those overseeing the operation the facilities.

 

Corollary to this,  Tabayan said the 56th Tatag Battalion is nurturing seven Talaingod IP scholars whom the 56th IB has also trained on various agri-based livelihood ventures, “for them to stand on their own”.

 

The scholarship grant also forms part of the “sustaining effort” of the Battalion to  end local communist armed conflict,  Tabayan said.

 

Once “Tatag IP Students’  Support Program” mechanics and operation plan would fully be laid defined, Tabayan said he would be explaining such to interested partners to support the program rollout.  (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Nickel mining site in Mati outside of protected areas

MATI CITY, DAVAO ORIENTAL- The nickel mining site of the Austral-Asia link Mining Corporation and Hallmark Mining Corporation is located outside of the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary and the Pujada Bay Seascape and Landscape. In a statement, the local government unit of Mati City said that the mining area is “four kilometers away from the boundary of the Pujada Bay Seascape which is a protected area and is also outside the Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary which is a Unesco-heritage site.” The mining site located in Barangay Macambol in Mati City comprises a total area measuring 17,215.49 hectares.
