DAVAO CITY, Dec. 7 (PIA) – The students aged 12-17 years old in Sarangani, the island municipality of Davao Occidental province, were urged to be inoculated against COVID-19 in preparation for the face to face classes early next year.
Dr. Roy T. Enriquez, chief administrative officer of the Department of Education Region XI (DepEd-XI), has also called on the parents to encourage their children to join the government’s vaccination program.
“We are proud to tell our learners that in Region 11, we have already eight schools which participated in the limited face-to-face classes. Three in Davao del Sur and five in Davao de Oro,” Enriquez stated in an interview with the Padayon News of the Schools Division of Davao Occidental during the kick off of the National Vaccination Days in Barangay Mabila, Sarangani.
He said that they are expecting an expansion of the implementation of the limited face-to-face classes, not only in schools in the main land of Davao Region, but also in schools in Sarangani island.
One female student, who was also interviewed by Padayon News after getting her first dose jab, said that she wanted to be protected from the virus as she was also looking forward for the resumption of the face-to-face classes.
The national vaccination drive was successful in Barangay Mabila which is aiming to reach 70 per cent herd immunity among its population especially those belonging from sectors of children ages 12 to 17 years old, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities and the general population.
The Bayanihan Bakunahan national COVID-19 vaccination days was pursuant to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 1253, declaring the conduct of the three-day vaccination drive to boost the country’s inoculation program against COVID-19. The second rollout will be on December 15, 16 and 17, 2021. (PIA XI/Franchette Delfin)
