Short film “Out” wins top award in 19th MFF

DAVAO CITY- A short film from Nasipit, Agusan del Sur won the Best Film Award at the 19th Mindanao Film Festival.


The short film “Out” written and directed by Mary Claire M. Amora won also awards for Best Director, Best Cinematography and a tie for Best Actress Award shared by the short film’s lead actress Esela Daniel and Uzbek actress Zebo Raximova for the Filipino-Uzbek joint production “My Mother’s Bicycle.”


“I’m out of words, wa ko ka expect gyud (I didn’t expect this) I’m overwhelmed. its like three years when I was 17 and I was just looking at those people at the same festival who got awards,  I was dreaming of an award. And right now its here and its the best award,” Amora said in her acceptance speech for the best film.


Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the short film “Out” tells the story of an 18-year old woman who celebrates the birthday of her sister wearing a dress she has been saving for the occasion.


The other winners of the 19th MFF include:


Best Actor: Clark Tubong from the film “Ok Ra Ko Sir”

Best Screenplay: Mary Ann Gabisan for the film “Dayong” and Jermaine Tulbo for the Transfiguration of St. Mike

Best Editing: Conrad dela Cruz for the film “Dead in the Dark”

Best Production Design: Mike dela Cruz and the Betamax Crew for “Dead in the Dark”

Best Original Song: “Ulitin” composed by Franky Arrocena for “Ok Ra Ko Sir” 

Best Sound: “Dead in the Dark”

Best Musical Score: “Neil Rubino for “Pulong Bato” and Dandy Joel Zafra III for “The Face of A Blissful Mind”

Best Student Film: “The Transfiguration of St. Mike”


Special Citations were given to the film “Ahmad and Abdul” for best marketing and promotions,  Special Jury Prize for “The Face of A Blissful Mind” and Special Recognition Award for  the films “LBM” and “Sabbath the Longest Day of the Year”


The jurors of this year’s MFF is composed Award winning actress Fe Hyde, Zamboanga filmmaker Zurich Chan and film and television director Wilfredo Manalang.


The 19th Mindanao Film Festival featured 71 films from different parts of the word. The festival ran from Dec. 6-13. The films were shown on the film festival’s Facebook Page and YouTube channel.


The film festival is organized by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation Inc. (MFTDFI) in partnership with the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), City Government of Davao- Davao Pasko Fiesta 2021. More NPAs surrender in DavNor

DAVAO DEL NORTE, Nov. 23 (PIA) – More than 30 former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army (CPP-NPA) recently surrendered to government troops in the Province of Davao Del Norte with their firearms turned over to the 10th Infantry AGILA Division of  the Philippine Army. Parents urged to register children to Safe Davao QR before vax

DAVAO CITY, February 22—(PIA) A local vaccine czar urged parents to register first their children aged five to eleven to the SAFEDAVAO QR before they can go to vaccine sites for inoculation. Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, Vaccination Cluster head of the city bared the registration to the SAFEDAVAOQR is crucial so that their children will be integrated in the local vaccination system. She said that the vaccination for children now is on its second phase, with three vaccination sites namely San Roque Elementary School in Barrio Obrero, Vicente Hizon Elementary School at Barangay Sasa and the Almendras gym. “Children can be vaccinated on these sites, whether they are walk-ins provided they have registered at the SAFEDAVAOQR,” Villafuerte said.
