Nearly 52,000 Dabawenyos donate their Pahalipay gift packs

DAVAO CITY, Dec. 28 (PIA)- A recorded number of 51,982 Dabawenyos ( as of 1:04 pm Dec. 28) have donated their Pahalipay gift packs to victims of Typhoon Odette. And this number is still increasing.

The Pahalipay is a system feature of the Safe Davao QR Code which facilitates the distribution of gift packs to residents of Davao City.

Residents will just to have log-in at their SDQR profile and click their Pahalipay button which gives out details such as gift type, claim period and supplier or where they can claim the gift packs.

Instead of claiming their gift packs some Dabawenyos suggested to the City Government if they can have the option of donating the gift packs to the victims of Typhoon Odette which devastated  large parts of Northern Mindanao and Central Visayas.

The City Government of Davao gave a go-ahead to the developers to work on the donate button. Working on Pahalipay is a team from Ingenuity, a homegrown software company.

“The process for donating would be similar to the proposal made by the public.  Log-in on their SDQR profile click the Pahalipay button and they would be shown a “DONATE” button if they opt to donate their Pahalipay gifts to the typhoon victims,” Abi Sitjar, Ingenuity software engineer and Pahalipay project head.

The donate button was already live and integrated into the SDQR Pahalipay feature  on December 25 and from there Dabawenyos started to use the donate button to help those affected by the typhoon.

Many donors found the Pahalipay donate feature very easy and convenient.

“I decided to donate because the people affected by typhoon Odette need it more than we do. The process of donating was easy as 123,” says entrepreneur Samantha Sasin.

For video editor Ryan delos Reyes the donate button was impressive as it highlighted the continued evolution and development of the Safe Davao QR code.

“I find the donate feature of SDQR very convenient. I like how the SDQR evolved from being a contact tracing app to a sort of Davao citizens' database,” delos Reyes said.  (PIA/RG Alama)
