DAVAO CITY, Dec. 24 (PIA) – The senior high school graduating students in Davao Occidental province were urged to apply for the Science Education Institute (SEI) undergraduate scholarship program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
DOST Davao Occidental Provincial Director Maria Victoria I. Dado has called on the grade 12 students who will be graduating next year and will be taking up college degrees, especially from the low-income families to take advantage of the opportunity to become scholars under the DOST-SEI.
The deadline of submission of the documentary requirements has been extended until December 31, 2021.
Dado said that eligible to apply are students belonging to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand and non-STEM who belong to the top 15 percent of the graduating class.
She said that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the applicants are no longer required to take the exams, but their academic ratings in grades 9, 10 and 11 of at least 85% will be considered in the evaluation and selection process.
Among the scholarship privileges are free tuition and other school fees amounting to P40,000 per year, book allowance of P10,000 per year and a monthly living allowance of P7,000.
Dado cited that if a student from Davao Occidental will be selected and will take up college in Manila or Cebu, the student will be provided with an economy class roundtrip plane ticket.
The scholars are also entitled to a clothing allowance of P1,000 during the first year, thesis allowance of P10,000 if graduating, and P1,000 allowance for the graduation day.
If the scholar is required to undergo summer class under the chosen curriculum, tuition and other school fees of P1,500 and book allowance of P500 will also be provided.
The living allowance of P7,000 will also be given during the summer class. (PIA-XI/Franchette Delfin)
