DavOcc senior high graduating students urged to apply for DOST scholarship



DAVAO CITY, Dec. 24 (PIA) – The senior high school graduating students in Davao Occidental province were urged to apply for the Science Education Institute (SEI) undergraduate scholarship program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).


DOST Davao Occidental Provincial Director Maria Victoria I. Dado has called on the grade 12 students who will be graduating next year and will be taking up college degrees, especially from the low-income families to take advantage of the opportunity to become scholars under the DOST-SEI.

 

The deadline of submission of the documentary requirements has been extended until December 31, 2021.

 

Dado said that eligible to apply are students belonging to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand and non-STEM who belong to the top 15 percent of the graduating class.

 

She said that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the applicants are no longer required to take the exams, but their academic ratings in grades 9, 10 and 11 of at least 85% will be considered in the evaluation and selection process.

 

Among the scholarship privileges are free tuition and other school fees amounting to P40,000 per year, book allowance of P10,000 per year and a monthly living allowance of P7,000.

 

Dado cited that if a student from Davao Occidental will be selected and will take up college in Manila or Cebu, the student will be provided with an economy class roundtrip plane ticket.

 

The scholars are also entitled to a clothing allowance of P1,000 during the first year, thesis allowance of P10,000 if graduating, and P1,000 allowance for the graduation day.

 

If the scholar is required to undergo summer class under the chosen curriculum, tuition and other school fees of P1,500 and book allowance of P500 will also be provided.

 

The living allowance of P7,000 will also be given during the summer class. (PIA-XI/Franchette Delfin)

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Mati City releases new tricycle fare guidelines

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Apr. 6 (PIA) -- The City Government of Mati has issued a new set of tricycle fare guidelines due to the increase in gasoline prices over the past weeks.   Under the City Ordinance No. 527 Series of 2022 or the "Ordinance Imposing the Regulation of Fare and Motorized  Tricycle-for-Hire in the City of Mati," the minimum fares are peg on the prevailing fuel prices. If the gasoline prices would hover at P40.00 to P49.99 per liter the minimum fare would be pegged at P9.00. If fuel prices are at P50.00 to P69.99/liter, minimum fare would be at P12.00 The current minimum fare is now P14.00 as the price of gasoline is between P70.00 to P89.99 per liter.   If the gasoline increase would go from P90.00 to P99.00/liter, the minimum fare will be P15.00. The price of gasoline is not the only indicator of the passenger's fare.
