Davao City Council lauds iSTRIKE Davao



DAVAO CITY, Dec. 23 (PIA)- The Sannguniang Panglungsod (City Council) of Davao City lauded the iSTRIKE (Innovation through Science, Technology, and Riske Resilient-based Initiatives towards Knowledge Economy) and its partner the Department of Agriculture of the collaborative commitment to push of innovation ecosystem in Region XI.


iSTRIKE Davao is the brand of the Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC) which is seen as the cornerstone of the Philippine Inclusive Innovation and Industrial Strategy (i 3 s), which lies at the heart of economic transformation and bridges the gap between the industry and academe. 


The RIIC serves to create a virtual and physical regional innovation ecosystem made up of universities, research and development (R&D) labs, science and technology (S&T) parks, start-up incubators, fabrication laboratories, co-working spaces, investors, government agencies, start-up businesses, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).


The Sangguniang Panglungsod thru Resolution No. 02841-21 congratulated iSTRIKE DAVAO for the memorandum of agreement signed by its partners in the RIIC.


Among the signatory partners included the Department of Trade and Industry-XI, Department of Information Communication Technology, National Economic Development Authority XI, Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agriculture Research, Department of Education XI, Department of Science and Technology- XI, DA- Bureau of Plant Industry XI, Department of Labor and Employment XI, Food and Drug Administration XI, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-XI, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., Philippine Information Agency-XI, HELP Davao Network, University of Mindanao, University of Southeastern Philippines, Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University.


Other signatories include; City Government of Davao, Food Processors Association of Davao City, University of the Philippines-Mindanao, Holy Cross of Davao College, Competitiveness and Innovation Group DTI, USAid Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) Program.


Under the signed MOU the partners in the government, academe and private sector seeks to:


  • Strengthen government-acdeme- industry collaborations
  • Establish mechanism for government programs and services to cover MSME’s in the prioritized industries.
  • Identify, develop and provide research-based technologies vis-à-vis the actual and specific needs of the local industries
  • Prepare a robust business environement for innovation-based MSMEs to thrive.
  • To be attuned to the Davao City Ordinance (04565-21 S. 2021) which establishes the Davao Inventions and Innovations Center.

LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. The Darong Import Facility has a rated capacity of 67-million liters of petroleum products.   The import facility will help and promote business continuity and stability in the area by providing needed fuel resources for mobility during storms, floods and other calamities.
