DAVAO CITY, Dec. 16 (PIA) - The Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Davao Region Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles reiterated during his guesting in the One Davao Virtual Presser yesterday the need for the public to get vaccinated and continue the strict practice of the minimum public health protocols following the recent detection of the Omicron variant in two individuals now in the Philippines.
Secretary Nograles, also the Presidential Spokesperson, shared that said variant is detected from a returning overseas Filipino from Japan who traveled to the Philippines last December 1 via Philippine Airlines.
“He had cough and colds before but is currently asymptomatic. He is also under isolation,” the official said.
Nograles also reported that another Omicron variant was detected from a Nigerian national who took his flight to the Philippines last November 30 via Oman Air. Said individual is also asymptomatic.
The Department of Health (DOH), in a media release, assured the public that all international travelers entering the country are subjected to strict IATF quarantine protocols and tested negative for COVID19 before being release from quarantine.
The DOH also called on all travelers in Oman Air with flight number WY 843 from Oman last November 30 and Philippine Airlines flight number PR 0427 from Japan last December 1 to monitor for symptoms,
The DOH reminded that at the first sign of COVID19 symptoms, they should contact their Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) in their respective LGUs or via DOH hotline (02)894-COVID or 1555 to get the assistance they need.
The LGUs are also instructed to report to the DOH and isolate any passenger from these flights who has exhibited symptoms anytime during the 14 days after their arrival.
Nograles supported the DOH’s call for an intensified vaccination to further broaden the scope of individuals with protection from the coronavirus.
He enjoined those who are still undecided, and those who have yet to get their first dose to take advantage of the Bayanihan Bakunahan Round 2 initially set from December 15 to 17. Some local government units have moved the Bayanihan Bakunahan to December 20 in light of typhoon Odette which is expected to bring heavy rains in some parts of the region.
