DAVAO CITY, Dec. 1 (PIA)—A member of the City COVID-19 Task Force revealed that 51, 500 residents have been vaccinated for the past two days of the 3-day Bayanihan Bakunahan.
Dr. Michelle Schlosser, COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson said the actual number of vaccinees may fall short of the 147, 313 vaccinations targeted by the Department of Health XI in Davao City.
However, she bared that the city remains to have .02 positivity rate of COVID-19 cases, hoping that surge will not be experienced in Davao City during the Christmas Season.
Schlosser said the compliance of the minimum public health standards and protocols has paid off.
She underscored that the city has the logistics, and human resources for the vaccination roll outs.
“We could hardly deny the presence of the vaccine hesitancy, where the people’s cooperation is needed,” Schlosser said.
She stood firm that the vaccine hesitancy is not that strong in Davao City because the seventy percent vaccination is reached.
Schlosser said the geographically isolated and depressed areas, and communities of the indigenous peoples remain to be the unreached areas.
She stressed vaccine hesitancy must be addressed by bringing to the communities the needed education and information.
Schlosser said that the only way to change the people’s behavior is through information and education through the social and quad media.
She said in order to protect oneself against any COVID-19 variant, one must protect oneself, through vaccination and compliance to the minimum public health standard.
Schlosser stressed regardless of any variant, the city will remain implementing its strategies through the implementation of Executive Orders No. 18 & 20 and border controls.
“Wear facemask all the time. Do social distancing and hand hygiene,” she said.
Schlosser also reminded parents of children, eleven years old and below to follow MPHS or delay going outside while they don’t have added protection like vaccination. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
