Tagum City LGU wins Philippine Heritage Awards


DAVAO DEL NORTE, Nov. 11 (PIA) -- The City Government of Tagum won the prestigious Philippine Heritage Award for Historical and Cultural Programs under the Heritage Education and Interpretation Category for its Kagikan Project established in 2013. The said award was conferred by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.


Together with the Partners for Indigenous Knowledge Philippines project in Cordillera, the Kagikan Project of the Tagum City LGU was recognized under the Heritage Education and Interpretation Category while the Palacio de Memoria was awarded under the Adaptive Reuse Category for this year's Philippine Heritage Awards.


The Kagikan Project focuses on tracing the roots and history of Tagum City. In its published book, it contains the etymology of Tagum City, its territorial limits, the prehistoric situation of the area during the Spanish, American, and Japanese invasions, the tribes that first settled in the city, and the leaders who strived to form their first government.


In a posted article of NCCA, the panel recommended the Tagum Local Government's Kagikan Project for its commitment and effort in bringing together, sharing, and discussing diverse entities' understanding of Tagum's history and culture through research.


As a result of the years-long historical research and inquiry of the Kagikan Project, the Tagum City Historical and Cultural Center rose in Tagum City’s former city hall.


The Philippine Heritage Awards is a conservation recognition program in which the President of the Philippines, on the nomination of the NCCA, bestows monetary prizes, awards, and citations for notable accomplishments and contributions. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. The Darong Import Facility has a rated capacity of 67-million liters of petroleum products.   The import facility will help and promote business continuity and stability in the area by providing needed fuel resources for mobility during storms, floods and other calamities. LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles.
