DPWH inaugurates Tagum City Flyover

DAVAO DEL NORTE, Nov. 19 (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Roger G. Mercado, led the inauguration of the Tagum City Flyover on Friday (Nov. 19).

The said flyover underwent recalibration and final touches before today's inauguration.

"Mao kini ang damgo nga dugay na natong gipangandoy nga proyekto. (This is the dream project that we wished for a long time).  It is a project that could decongest heavy traffic in the city of Tagum and the entire province of Davao Del Norte," said Mercado in his inaugural message.

During his speech at the event, DPWH Secretary pointed out the promising potential of the City of Tagum and the Province of Davao Del Norte.

"I can see that Tagum is a very beautiful city akong nakita nga dako kaayo ug ugma, potential ang atong probinsya sa Davao Del Norte mao kana nga ako isip inyong sekretaryo sa DPWH, nalipay. I am very happy to be here with you," (I can see that Tagum is a very beautiful city and I can see a future and a potential also of the Province of Davao Del Norte, and as your secretary of the DPWH, I am happy. I am very happy to be here with you), he said.

Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib shared a little history of the said project.

"Noong 2016, very heavy traffic ang area na ito sa Tagum City at ang mga buses nga ay nagre-route na sa south part ng Tagum City kay very heavy ang traffic dito. Kaya naisip ni Cong Bebot nung speaker sya na dapat magkaroon ng mega-project ang Davao Del Norte. kaya ito na ngayon ang megaproject flyover ng Davao Del Norte," (In 2016, this area of Tagum City was frequently under heavy traffic, and buses were already routing in the south portion of the city due to the excessive traffic. So, when Congressman Bebot (Alvarez) was Speaker of the House of Representatives, he felt Davao Del Norte should have a mega-project. So this is currently Davao Del Norte's mega-project flyover),” the Governor said.

Congressman Pantaleon D. Alvarez of the 1st District of Davao Del Norte and Jubahib expressed their gratitude to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for approving the budget of the said flyover.

"Ako magpasalamat pod ko kay Presidente Rodrigo Duterte sa pag approved sa budget niini nga proyekto sa dihang ako ang speaker sa Congress (I would also like to thank President Rodrigo Duterte for approving the budget for this project when I was still the speaker of congress),” Alvarez' said.

"Kaya ito po'y aking pinasasalamatan, pinasasalamatan ko po ngayon ang ating Presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte dahil inaprove po niya ang budget dito," (So I thank our President Rodrigo Roa Duterte today because he approved the budget for this), Jubahib also thanked the President who was instrumental in realizing the 1.6 kilometer flyover. Though we are young, though we are still around two-years old from the time we were launched, I say we are fortunate because we did not start from zero. We were a campus of SPAMAST such that there wer...
