DAVAO CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) – The Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) in Digos City has organized a three-day vaccination rollout which benefitted 468 students including staff and teachers who received their first jab of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
The vaccination drive held at the DSSC gymnasium on November 2-4, 2021 was part of the “Sama-Samang Vaccination Program for Tertiary Students in Davao Region,” an initiative of the Commission on Higher Education Region XI (CHED-XI) in partnership with the Department of Health Region XI (DOH-XI).
DSSC President Dr. Augie E. Fuentes explained that the vaccination rollout was aimed at having students fully vaccinated and getting them ready for the limited face-to-face classes by January 2022.
“I would like to thank the teams coming from the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital, our Red Cross team, our provincial DOH Team and our local BHW’s from Barangay Matti,” Fuentes expressed gratitude to the vaccination teams.
Dr. Maricar Casquejo, regional director of CHED-XI, said that the vaccination program of the agency was in collaboration with DOH-XI to encourage more students to get vaccinated in preparation for the face-to-face classes.
“We are blessed diri sa DSSC tungod kay gihatod na gyud sa panggamhanan ang vaccine ug diri mismo sa atong campus (here at DSSC because the vaccines were delivered by the government here in our campus),” stated Wally Carcedo, president of the DSSC Student Supreme Government (SSG).
After getting his first jab during the rollout, Carcedo urged other students to also be vaccinated, saying “this is our time and opportunity nga gihatag na sa atong gobyerno. Kaning vaccine, mao ni siya ang isa ka way para mo resume na ang klase (that the government has provided. This vaccine is one way for classes to resume.”
Davao del Sur Governor Marc Cagas, who also graced the vaccination activity on the first day, encouraged the students to also have the members of their family get inoculated and be protected. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
