DavOr Guv wants NTF-ELCAC to continue

DAVAO CITY, NOV. 17 (PIA)- Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang of Davao Oriental said the successful programs of the National Task Force- Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) should continue despite calls for the defunding and the eventual abolition of the flagship peace and order approach of the government.

“Sa kasalukuyan napakaganda na nang ating programa especially yung programa sa elcac, napakalaking bagay na binigay ng ating national govt sa mga barangay na conflict affected areas at na kung saan mabigay natin ang solusyon sa mga problema ng sambayanan (Currently our program is doing great particularly the program on ELCAC. It is a great thing the government has given to the barangays which are conflict affected areas where we have given the solutions to the problems of the residents),” the Governor said during his guesting the Network Briefing of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

In Davao Oriental pursuant to President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s whole-of-nation approach as contained in Executive Order 70, the province has implemented the whole of nation strategy to fight the insurgency.

Under the Nagkakaisang Lingkod Bayan ng Davao Oriental Barangay Outreach program, residents of remote barangays were reached and essential services were made accessible to them.

Governor Dayanghirang credits President Duterte’s efforts in achieving peace and order in the country particularly thru EO 70. He said that in the next elections the people must choose a President whose leadership is focused on achieving lasting peace.

He also appealed to Senators who are proposing or in favor of slashing the P24-billion budget for ELCAC to just P4-billion to look at the effect of shrinking the budget of ELCAC

“Sana naman sa ating mahal na senador wag nyo ipagdamot ang development ang kapayapaan. Upang maangkin na natin ang tunay na kapayapaan dito sa ating mahal na bansa.” (I hope our Senators will not be selfish in the attainment of peace and development, so that we can achieve true and lasting peace in our beloved country),” Governor Dayanghirang said.

The Governor said that the best strategy in attaining peace is not through guns but through winning the hearts and minds of the people. (PIA/RG Alama)
