Davao Region’s exports post declines


DAVAO CITY, Nov 4 (PIA) – As the COVID-19 health crisis affected the country and the rest of the world, the country’s major export of goods had a significant decrease as revealed during a presentation by the Philippine Statistics Authority XI on International Trade Merchandise Statistics held virtually on October 26.


Bureau of Customs Port of Davao Deputy Collector Atty. Dante A. Maranan agreed with the data presented in which BOC is mandated by the law to give statistical records to PSA.


Maranan said, “I found out that there is a decline in the export of goods compared to the previous year, even that to the 1st semester of 2020.  Perhaps it’s greatly affected by the onset of the pandemic brought by COVID-19”.


Davao region’s total export turnout for the 1st semester of 2021 reached to 1.1 billion US dollar which is lower as compared to the same semester of 2020 at 1.52 billion US dollar.  The total imported fruits for the 1st semester of 2021 at 1.57 billion US dollar which is 42.9%.


Listed here are the top 5 major commodities in Davao Region:


1. Banana (Cavendish) on 1st semester of 2021 recorded an export receipt of 540.4 million US dollar or 46.4% share of the total exports receipt of 903.6 million US dollar in the same semester last year. 


2. Coconut (Copra/Crude Oil) placed 2nd highest in commodity group with an export turnout of 192.4 US dollar or 16.5% of the total export for the 1st semester of 2021with annual increase of 21.2%. 


3. Other fruits such as Lychees, Longan and Jackfruit which are preserved and containing with added sugar gained total export sales of 66.7 million US dollar which is higher than the 1st semester of previous year.  


4. On the 1st semester of 2021, Pineapple dropped its export revenue at 64.0 million US dollar from 112.1 million US Dollar at the same semester of last year.


5. Desiccated coconut with export revenue of 57.7 or 4.9% total export in the 1st semester of 2021.


Maranan said, “Statistical data is indispensable tool in any economic activity. Import and Export must not only be monitored for the balance and payments but also because of the different kinds of commodities imported and exported”.


BOC also confirmed that the Philippine products has 5 major countries destination like Japan, China, Netherlands, South Korea and USA. 


Maranan added, “the Philippines must come into negotiations to countries of destinations in order to give preferential treatment on tariff of the export commodities. (PIA XI/Elvira May Suico)

LTO to public: Do not patronize colorum vehicles

  NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - An official of the Land Transportation Office enjoined the public for the eradication of colorum vehicles plying the streets in Davao region. During the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Davao City, LTO XI Regional Director Eleanor Calderon urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles to avoid any road safety risk and to also complement their enforcement operations against these violators. “If we stop patronizing these (colorum vehicles), they will just die a natural death; mawala ra na sila sa kalsad a (they will just vanish in our roads),” Calderon said. The traffic official emphasized that LTO XI has apprehended a total of 115 colorum vehicles from January to April 2024. Calderon also provided tips to identify colorum vehicles. Pilipinas Shell to build import facility in Sta. Cruz, DavSur

DAVAO CITY, April 22-   Petroleum giant Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation will be constructing its Darong Import Facility in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. When completed it will be the third largest import facility in the country after the Shell Import Facility Tabangao in Batangas and the North Mindanao Import Facility in Cagayan de Oro. The Darong Import Facility has a rated capacity of 67-million liters of petroleum products.   The import facility will help and promote business continuity and stability in the area by providing needed fuel resources for mobility during storms, floods and other calamities.
