DAVAO CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA)- The City Government of Davao is launching the virtual Davao Pasko Fiesta dubbed as DAVAO PASKOnline FIESTA.
The Pasko Fiesta is an annual event of the City Government in partnership with the private sector as a means of celebrating the Filipino tradition during the Holiday Season.
In the past, before the pandemic, the Pasko Fiesta was highlighted by the thematic Christmas display at the City Hall and Rizal Park alongside various activities such as free concerts, gift-giving, Christmas fairs, torotot (party horn) New Year’s celebration among many face-to-face events.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave way to a re-conceptualized Davao Pasko Fiesta where most of the events will be held online.
According to festival director Gatchi Gatchalian, the activities will be centered on the Dabawenyo family celebrating a meaningful and hopeful Christmas.
“We are really encouraging the families to participate in our many activities and contests this is for them, para ito kina lolo, lola, tatay, nanay, ate, kuya, bunso, tito, tita” Gatchalian said during the virtual media launch held today (Nov. 3).
“We want to go back to the roots, the celebration of Christmas which is the family,” City Tourism Operations Office head Generose Tecson said during the media launch.
This year’s pasko fiesta theme “ Buong Pamilya, Sama-samang Magsasaya, Puno ng Pag-ibig at Pagasa!” (The whole family, celebrating together filled with love and hope) embraces the family-centered focus of this year’s Pasko Fiesta.
All of the activities under Davao Pasko Fiesta will be shown on social media ( Davao Pasko Fiesta Facebook page).
These activities consist of online dance (tiktok), caroling, parolmaking contests, Christmas themed workshops, concerts, caroling, reality series, Christmas film festival, simbang gabi and a hybrid event- the weekend market.
Tecson said the online celebration wants to encourage people to stay at home this Christmas and to take care of themselves as the COVID-19 though it is on the downtrend hasn’t completely disappeared. (PIA/RG Alama)
