Davao Occidental’s ‘revitalized pulis sa barangay’ brings services to far-flung areas

RPSB in Brgy Marabatuan, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 28 (PIA) – The active involvement of the Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (RPSB) teams in the “barangayanihan” activities in the province of Davao Occidental has brought various assistance to the communities.

In the continuing rollout of the “barangayanihan” in far-flung barangays in the five municipalities of the province, the RPSB teams of the Davao Occidental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) have already extended several assistance and services such food packs, hygiene kits, school supplies, feeding program, coastal clean-up, livelihood kits and skills training.

PMaj. Mark A. Janolino, DOPPO acting chief of the provincial community affairs and development unit, explained that the RPSB is the PNP’s commitment in pursuing a police-to-community relationship during disasters and emergency.

Janolino said that RPSB teams have also been collaborating with the local government units and national government agencies in carrying out the “barangayanihan”.

Just recently, the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) in the province has provided skills training on baking and baking equipment for 15 beneficiaries in Barangay Poblacion in the municipality of Malita.

The “barangayanihan” has also delivered different assistance in Jose Abad Santos town, such as distribution of school supplies, hygiene kits and face masks, and feeding program.

Ginahimo ni karon sa mga kabukiran nga naay RPSB, hilabi na sa mga lugar nga lagyo ug maglisod ang mga katawhan og avail sa serbisyo sa gobyerno (We’re doing this in the mountains where there are RPSB, especially in far-flung areas where people have difficulties in availing of government services),” he stated.

Janolino said that despite the COVID-19 restrictions in the province where mass gatherings are prohibited, the “barangayanihan” activities continue to keep on providing services to the communities.

Naa gihapon ang serbisyo pero syempre sunod lang gyud ta sa safety protocols. Ug limited ra gyud ang mahatagan sa serbisyo (Giving services continues but safety protocols are followed. And recipients of the services are also limited),” he added.

He said that the RPSB program is one way of achieving the government’s goal on ending local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) pursuant to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 or the “Whole of Nation Approach”. (PIA XI/Franchette Delfin)
