Army’s 10th ID chief hopes next President to support E.O. 70



DAVAO DEL NORTE, Nov. 4 (PIA)--- Agila Division commander has expressed hope for the next Presidential administration to support Executive Order No. 70 which institutionalizes the whole of government approach on ending local communist armed conflict.

 

Guesting at Kapihan sa DavNor, Major General Ernesto C. Torres  of the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division viewed E.O. 70  as “the right mechanism to end local communist armed conflict”, having cited a number of campaign  methodologies tried by  the armed forces to end communist insurgency in the Philippines.

 

“Let’s just hope that the next commander-in-chief and President would be supportive of this particular campaign of ending local communist armed conflict otherwise, there is the risk of going back to square one which all of us peace-loving Filipinos would feel bad about,” he said during such special episode of Kapihan sa DavNor that banners the theme, “Peace Culture and Peace Consciousness.”

 

In a separate press conference, Torres expressed the same hope while lauding President Rodrigo Duterte for being “passionate” about putting an end to local communist armed conflict through setting up a mechanism that targets to bring together government services to influenced areas.

 

“I hope really that the next commander-in-chief would have the same passion,” he said in a presscon in October that was organized to present rescued minors from communist terrorist group (CTG).

 

Meanwhile, Torres revealed that the Armed Forces of the Philippines “including the Agila troopers are registered to vote”.


“It is not enough that we are unmasking the CPP-NPA-NDF. We have to be more aggressive; we have to be more pro-active by voting the right people we think would be supportive of our advocacy and campaign,” he said during the same Kapihan sa DavNor edition. “Yon po ang aming (That is our) contribution related to the upcoming elections,” he added.


Torres was most likely sure that candidates in the 2022 elections supportive of AFP’s advocacy and campaign would get the votes of the soldiers.


On the other hand, Torres appealed to lawmakers of the Congress and the Senate to upgrade the policy status of E.O. 70 into a law, “so that whoever will sit as the new President, may continuity po ang ating program (our program would have continuity)”. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Mati City releases new tricycle fare guidelines

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Apr. 6 (PIA) -- The City Government of Mati has issued a new set of tricycle fare guidelines due to the increase in gasoline prices over the past weeks.   Under the City Ordinance No. 527 Series of 2022 or the "Ordinance Imposing the Regulation of Fare and Motorized  Tricycle-for-Hire in the City of Mati," the minimum fares are peg on the prevailing fuel prices. If the gasoline prices would hover at P40.00 to P49.99 per liter the minimum fare would be pegged at P9.00. If fuel prices are at P50.00 to P69.99/liter, minimum fare would be at P12.00 The current minimum fare is now P14.00 as the price of gasoline is between P70.00 to P89.99 per liter.   If the gasoline increase would go from P90.00 to P99.00/liter, the minimum fare will be P15.00. The price of gasoline is not the only indicator of the passenger's fare.
