DAVAO DEL NORTE, Nov. 4 (PIA)--- Agila Division commander has expressed hope for the next Presidential administration to support Executive Order No. 70 which institutionalizes the whole of government approach on ending local communist armed conflict.
Guesting at Kapihan sa DavNor, Major General Ernesto C. Torres of the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division viewed E.O. 70 as “the right mechanism to end local communist armed conflict”, having cited a number of campaign methodologies tried by the armed forces to end communist insurgency in the Philippines.
“Let’s just hope that the next commander-in-chief and President would be supportive of this particular campaign of ending local communist armed conflict otherwise, there is the risk of going back to square one which all of us peace-loving Filipinos would feel bad about,” he said during such special episode of Kapihan sa DavNor that banners the theme, “Peace Culture and Peace Consciousness.”
In a separate press conference, Torres expressed the same hope while lauding President Rodrigo Duterte for being “passionate” about putting an end to local communist armed conflict through setting up a mechanism that targets to bring together government services to influenced areas.
“I hope really that the next commander-in-chief would have the same passion,” he said in a presscon in October that was organized to present rescued minors from communist terrorist group (CTG).
Meanwhile, Torres revealed that the Armed Forces of the Philippines “including the Agila troopers are registered to vote”.
“It is not enough that we are unmasking the CPP-NPA-NDF. We have to be more aggressive; we have to be more pro-active by voting the right people we think would be supportive of our advocacy and campaign,” he said during the same Kapihan sa DavNor edition. “Yon po ang aming (That is our) contribution related to the upcoming elections,” he added.
Torres was most likely sure that candidates in the 2022 elections supportive of AFP’s advocacy and campaign would get the votes of the soldiers.
On the other hand, Torres appealed to lawmakers of the Congress and the Senate to upgrade the policy status of E.O. 70 into a law, “so that whoever will sit as the new President, may continuity po ang ating program (our program would have continuity)”. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
