3-day national vax drive seen to boost jabbing in IP areas

TALAINGOD, Davao del Norte, Nov. 29 (PIA) ---  The three-day national vaccination drive dubbed as “Bayanihan Bakunahan” is seen to  boost the percentage of vaccinated individuals especially in areas of low vaccination rates.

Davao del Norte Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Alfredo Lacerona was optimistic that the vaccination rate in the Municipality of Talaingod would  ramp up as he noted the huge influx to Sto Nino Gymnasium of individuals interested to  get jabbed.

The Municipal Health Office is targeting to vaccinate 8,000 Talaingod residents at the close of the 3-day vaccination drive on December 1

This may be seen as just a minimal target compared to other towns but this figure is  seen as a key to hitting the 70 percent herd immunity in Talaingod with only 30,000 population, mostly Ata-Manobo indigenous peoples (IPs).

Municipal Health Office (MHO) data showed that from the start of vaccination campaign up to November this year, only a total of 2,652 were fully vaccinated while 3,610 individuals had their first dose.

Dr. Lacerona attributed this low turnout of vaccination in Talaingod to lack of manpower to reach far-flung sitios.  Thus, he brought along with him his provincial team of healthcare workers to augment the jabbing force of Talaingod on the first day of vaccination drive conducted at Sto Nino Gymnasium in the town proper.

The municipal government also has set up vaccination sites at Sto Nino Central Elementary School and at the mini gymnasium in Barangay Dagohoy to deliver the COVID-19 vaccination service to far-flung residents of Talaingod.

Meanwhile, Talaingod Mayor Jonnie  Libayao called on  his fellow Ata-Manobos to come down and be vaccinated to protect themselves from COVID-19 Infection.

The Mayor has  considered it good that fellow IPs be protected from COVID-19 should visitors come into their places carrying such virus.

Among those who took part of the national vaccination kick-off rites of Davao del Norte done in the municipality of Talaingod was the regional team of  the Department of Health led by Dr. Rachel Pacion of DOH Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU).

Aside from DOH XI, national line agencies present were  the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Information Communication and Technology (DICT), Bureau of Fire, among others.  (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)

Parents urged to register children to Safe Davao QR before vax

DAVAO CITY, February 22—(PIA) A local vaccine czar urged parents to register first their children aged five to eleven to the SAFEDAVAO QR before they can go to vaccine sites for inoculation.
