DAVAO CITY, Oct. 1 (PIA) – The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of the local government of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur has kept up with its food assistance for the COVID-19 patients, using available resources.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the LGU of Sta. Cruz has never stopped providing food packs and preparing meals for COVID-19 patients admitted at the municipal isolation facility, including those in quarantine at the barangay isolation units and in their homes.
MSWDO chief Adelaida Badilla said the food meals also include frontliners from the Municipal Health Office during vaccination rollouts and from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management office during disasters.
The LGU has already projected funding allocation for the food assistance not only in response to COVID-19 pandemic, but also in preparation for disasters, until end of this year, Badilla bared during one of the episodes of PIA Davao del Sur/Davao Occidental Gobyernong Balitaan radio program over Energy FM Digos.
“Maka sustain pa ang budget (the budget can still sustain),” said the MSWDO official, as she hoped that the LGU continues to avert the spread of COVID-19 in the municipality.
Apart from the regular budget, Badilla thanked the MHO, PDRRMO, Office of the President and other national government agencies for augmenting the funding of the LGU in responding to the pandemic.
“DSWD is a reliable partner in terms of augmentation and early recovery,” she said.
Badilla bared that Sta. Cruz MHO is also keeping up with the vaccination drive, disclosing that more than 10,000 residents from the priority groups A1 to A4 have already been vaccinated.
She said that the vaccination rollout has stepped up for employees from private companies where COVID-19 cases were also rampant.
But despite the pandemic, MSWDO has continued to implement their regular programs, such as provision of basic social services for the senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pre-schoolers, women sector, solo parents, youth, former rebels and among others.
“We are not forgetting nga aduna tay mga sectors nga atimanon (that we have sectors to attend to)” stated Badilla.
She added that the LGU is also reaching out residents in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs). “Gipadalhan namo og mga sebisyo sa kabukiran (We’re extending services to the hinterlands.” (PIA XI/Carina L. Cayon with reports from Franchette Delfin)
