Pediatric vaccination in Davao Region kicks off at SPMC

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 29 (PIA)- The much-awaited pediatric vaccination for young individuals ages 12 to 17 years old started today (Oct. 29) at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

 

The vaccination targeted 12 to  17 year old children with comorbidities. According to Department of Health –XI Regional Director Anabelle Yumang M.D. they are expecting 200 vaccinees for the initial pediatric vaccination at the SPMC.

 

A short and simple ceremony was held at the grounds of the SPMC. Attending the kick-off was DOH Assistant Secretary Roy Ferrer M.D., RD Yumang, SPMC chief-of-hospital Ricardo Audan and Dr. Aldrich So representing the City Health Office of the local government of Davao City.

 

A 17-year old kid, Alexius Elorde was the first pediatric vaccinee. His vaccination was witnessed by the three officials.

 

“Okay man lang, wala koy na feel na side effects” Elorde said after being vaccinated.

 

Yumang said the interim guidelines for the pediatric vaccinee will be out next week and they are expecting that by November 3 the fixed vaccination sites will start catering to 12- 17 year old vaccinees.

 

“In our region we have  620,216 (12 to 17 year olds) that we are expecting to vaccinate,” RD Yumang said.

 

According to the DOH-XI regional director only Pfizer and Moderna have Emergency Use Authorization granted for pediatric vaccination. Currently the stocks in the region are of the Pfizer brand.

 

Asec Roy Ferrer said they are urging the parents and guardians to let their children be vaccinated.

 

He said those who have been fully vaccinated should help spread awareness about the benefits of the vaccine particularly the parents or guardians to their children or wards. (PIA/RG Alama)

More NPAs surrender in DavNor

Parents urged to register children to Safe Davao QR before vax

DAVAO CITY, February 22—(PIA) A local vaccine czar urged parents to register first their children aged five to eleven to the SAFEDAVAO QR before they can go to vaccine sites for inoculation. Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, Vaccination Cluster head of the city bared the registration to the SAFEDAVAOQR is crucial so that their children will be integrated in the local vaccination system. She said that the vaccination for children now is on its second phase, with three vaccination sites namely San Roque Elementary School in Barrio Obrero, Vicente Hizon Elementary School at Barangay Sasa and the Almendras gym. “Children can be vaccinated on these sites, whether they are walk-ins provided they have registered at the SAFEDAVAOQR,” Villafuerte said.
