Mati City kicks off 21st Sambuokan Festival

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Oct. 28 (PIA) -- The City of Mati formally opened the 21st Sambuokan Festival through a limited face-to-face ceremony and a live telecast through its official Facebook page at City of Mati LGU on October 25, 2021.

This year's theme is, "Sambuokan: Selebrasyon sa Katawhan, Kinaiyan ug Kang Magbabaya," its culminating activity is on October 29, 2021.  

In her opening speech, City Mayor Michelle N. Rabat narrated how Sambuokan Festival was conceptualized and what it was for.

"Because at that time, politically, Mati City was in turmoil. Away-away permanente (Leaders are always fighting). So in his waning years (former Mayor Francisco Garcia Rabat), he was already 69, he said it is about time that we set aside differences and make peace with everybody for the sake of Mati. And that is the concept of Sambuokan, meaning nagkahiusa or nagkaisa (united)," the city Mayor narrated the festival’s roots.

"Sambuokan is not politics. It is about togetherness as a community because we fight for one goal only and that is to keep Mati alive and as vibrant as it is now," Rabat added.  

Also presented at the opening ceremony is the list of activities from October 25-29, 2021.

Conducted on October 25 at 9:00 am was the "Dagway sa Sambuokan Exhibit" in the City Hall of Mati, followed by the "Kamunaan sa Sambuokan Exhibit" at 10:00 am at the Baywalk, beside Sa-la Cafe, and the opening ceremony at 5:00 pm. On October 26, conducted was "Pag-kila 2021: Sulat Kasay-sayan at Honey's Hotel at 10:00 am. At 5:00 pm, the event was titled "Pasidungog" dedicated to honoring the top 20 business taxpayers, top 10 realty property taxpayers, and the top 3 barangays of real property tax collection.

Held yesterday (Oct. 27) was the “Bal’aw Bal’aw” at 8:00 am participated by the tribal leaders from the Kagan, Mandaya, and Manubo tribes. "Abunda Festival" was initiated afterward on the same day at 10:00 am where all stall renters at the public market were exempted from rental fees that day.  

Today, October 28, the online competition namely "Indak Sayaw sa Sambuokan" is scheduled.

On the closing day on October 29, loud beats of drums will be heard early at 4:00 am namely the "Pamukaw sa Sambuokan." There will also be a Holy Mass at the San Nicholas De Tolentino Cathedral at 8:00 am which will be followed by the grand closing ceremony dubbed as "Sambuokan Festival - Magahanay Ngadi Grand Online Celebration."

On the evening, a grand celebration at 7:00 am is also scheduled dubbed as "Kalingawan sa Sambuokan." (PIA XI Davao del Norte/jmda/Ezri M. Coda, Jr.)

DOH XI hires more nurses, doctors

DAVAO CITY, September 6 (PIA) – The Department of Health XI bared its emergency hiring for nurses and doctors following the need to augment the personnel requirement of COVID19 hospitals from all over the region. The head of the DOH XI Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Dr. Rachel Pasion, in today’s DOH Virtual Presser reported that in Davao City alone combining both the COVID19 hospitals and the private hospitals have utilized 674 COVID19 beds out of the 830 beds or 79.4 utilization rate. This brings the region’s critical care utilization at a high risk level. The Southern Philippine Medical Center, in the past few days, released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for COVID19. Mati City releases new tricycle fare guidelines

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Apr. 6 (PIA) -- The City Government of Mati has issued a new set of tricycle fare guidelines due to the increase in gasoline prices over the past weeks.   Under the City Ordinance No. 527 Series of 2022 or the "Ordinance Imposing the Regulation of Fare and Motorized  Tricycle-for-Hire in the City of Mati," the minimum fares are peg on the prevailing fuel prices. If the gasoline prices would hover at P40.00 to P49.99 per liter the minimum fare would be pegged at P9.00. If fuel prices are at P50.00 to P69.99/liter, minimum fare would be at P12.00 The current minimum fare is now P14.00 as the price of gasoline is between P70.00 to P89.99 per liter.   If the gasoline increase would go from P90.00 to P99.00/liter, the minimum fare will be P15.00. The price of gasoline is not the only indicator of the passenger's fare.
