Mati City kicks off 21st Sambuokan Festival

DAVAO ORIENTAL, Oct. 28 (PIA) -- The City of Mati formally opened the 21st Sambuokan Festival through a limited face-to-face ceremony and a live telecast through its official Facebook page at City of Mati LGU on October 25, 2021.

In her opening speech, City Mayor Michelle N. Rabat narrated how Sambuokan Festival was conceptualized and what it was for.

"Because at that time, politically, Mati City was in turmoil. Away-away permanente (Leaders are always fighting). So in his waning years (former Mayor Francisco Garcia Rabat), he was already 69, he said it is about time that we set aside differences and make peace with everybody for the sake of Mati. And that is the concept of Sambuokan, meaning nagkahiusa or nagkaisa (united)," the city Mayor narrated the festival’s roots.

"Sambuokan is not politics. It is about togetherness as a community because we fight for one goal only and that is to keep Mati alive and as vibrant as it is now," Rabat added.
