Sec. Andanar with Don Marcelino Brgy Lapuan SK chair Yemar Gulo
DAVAO CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA) – The Sangguniang Kabataan council of Barangay Lapuan in Don Marcelino town, Davao Occidental, has initiated a program that aims to promote active lifestyle and positivity among the youth amid the pandemic.
Guesting in today’s episode of Laging Handa Network Briefing with Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, SK Chair Yemar Gulo said that the program is dubbed as LUGPAT or Learning Ultimate Games to Promote Active Lifestyle and Total Well-Being.
Gulo explained that lugpat is coined from the Kaolo term (dialect of the Tagakaolo tribe) which means to jump. “So LUGPAT is an activity that will encourage the students to jump into a current set-up due to pandemic.”
The program’s activities include information drive, teaching young children how to read, distribution of relief goods and clothes and giving of reading materials in the remote sitios of the coastal barangay of Lapuan.
The creation of LUGPAT is in partnership with the faculty members of the Luisa Joyce Mallari National High School and the Unified for Youth’s Organization in said barangay, Gulo said.
The program, he said, also aims to strengthen the relationship between the school and community and uplift the spirit of positivity among the youth amidst the struggles brought by the global pandemic.
“Napakahalagang ipadama sa mga kabataan na nasa malayong bahagi ng ating lipunan na sila ay binibigyang pansin na madama nila na may mga taong handang tumulong sa kanila,” he stated.
Also as part of Brgy. Lapuan SK’s response on COVID-19, the officers recently launched its “Tulong Eskwela ni SK” Program which provides educational cash assistance to qualified Grade 12 and college students in the barangay.
Gulo bared that 82 beneficiaries have availed of the program during its launch in September this year in time for the celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan and International Youth day.
“Bilang pasasalamat at pagkilala sa kanilang katatagan at determinasyon sa pag abot ng kanilang pangarap sa loob ng pandemya,” he said.
On its participation in the vaccination drive, Gulo said that the SK council is preparing for the upcoming vaccination program for children ages 12-17 years old.
“Magkakaroon kami ng tamang information drive para silang lahat ay ma-aware at masagot namin ang queries nila upang ma spread ng tama ang information at maging handa sila,” he said.
The SK chairperson extended his gratitude to the youth in Brgy. Lapuan for the unending support and patronage on the programs and projects implemented.
He urged the young residents in his barangay to help in giving solutions and ideas in this time of the pandemic. (PIA-XI/Franchette Delfin)
