DOH XI opens vaccination for 12-17 yrs old with comorbidities

DAVAO, Oct 27 (PIA) - Starting October 29, 2021, children aged 12-17 with comorbidities may get vaccinated in identified hospitals in Davao Region.

The Department of Health XI (DOH XI) in a press release called on children under Pediatric A3 or those 12 to 17 years old with comorbidities to have themselves scheduled for vaccination by securing first a medical certificate detailing the child’s comorbidity, valid ID of the child and the parent or guardian, and any proof of filiation like the birth certificate.

The hospitals identified to cater vaccination of the Pediatric A3 group are the following: Southern Philippines Medical Center, Metro Davao Medical and Research Center, and the Seamen's Hospital in R. Castillo, Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital, Davao Regional Medical Center, Davao De Oro Provincial Hospital, and Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center.

The DOH XI further clarified that Moderna and Pfizer vaccines against COVID19 have an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the A3 pediatric population: adolescents aged 12 to 17.

Children under A3 are those with underlying medical comorbidities and at risk of severe COVID-19. These are children identified with medical complexities, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic or endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV or tuberculosis.

The DOH XI convened last Monday (October 25) parents and guardians of children aged 12-17 with existing health conditions to a virtual town hall meeting discussing the Pediatric Population with Comorbidities Vaccination Phase 3 roll out in Davao region.

The virtual meeting allowed experts from the DOH to address concerns of parents and guardians related to the pediatric vaccination.

Davao Region was included in the regions for Phase 3 roll out of the Pediatric Vaccination as it has already exceeded the 50% target coverage of senior citizens in the region.

With the Pediatric Vaccination, Dr. Annabelle Yumang said that the government also ensures the inclusion of the pediatric population adolescents with comorbidities as they too are at risk of COVID19 complications.

The DOH XI reminded parents and guardians to accompany their child at the vaccination site. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
