DavSur journalist shot dead

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) – Media personality Orlando “Dondon” Dinoy was shot dead around 6:00 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 30, 2021) inside his rented apartment at Mother Ignacia Village in Brgy. Poblacion Uno, Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

According to the report of Bansalan Municipal Police Station, Dinoy sustained gunshot wounds on his body and that the firearm used by the culprit was .45 caliber.

The initial investigation report revealed that while the victim was inside his rented apartment, a certain boarder of the said apartment suddenly heard several gun bursts.

Another witness, a minor, heard more than six gun bursts and saw a male person with medium built body, wearing black cap, short pants and t-shirt near the victim’s room, who boarded a single motorcycle waiting outside the apartment.

The unidentified suspects fled to unknown direction, the Bansalan MPS report stated. Recovered from the crime scene were six (6) pieces of fired cartridge cases, one (1) fired bullet and one (1) deformed fire bullet.

The Police said that investigation is still being conducted to identify and arrest the assailant and to determine the motive of the crime. Just before his death, Dinoy was a reporter of Davao City-based Newsline Philippines and radio reporter of Energy FM in Digos City.

He was also a correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer Mindanao and Sun Star Davao. The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Davao City Chapter and the different media outlets strongly condemned the “barbaric killing” and cried for justice.

“We demand speedy and fast police investigation to identify the person/s behind the killing and put the perpetrators behind bars immediately,” stated KBP Davao City Chapter President Roy Geonzon.

Geonzon cited the killing as an “attack and affront to the lives of journalists and the freedom of expression guaranteed in the Philippine Constitution.”

“We condemn the death of Dondon as we appeal to the authorities for a speedy investigation and determine the motive behind his death, as we cry for justice,” the online media outlet Newsline Philippines stated on its Facebook page post on Saturday. His co-workers from the Energy FM Digos radio station have also appealed to authorities for the speedy investigation of Dinoy’s death.

“Kami nga iyang mga kaubanan naga pangitag hustisya para kaniya (We, his colleagues, are seeking justice for him!” “We appeal to the authorities and all concerned agencies to prioritize investigation over the brutal killing of our media colleague, Orlando “Dondon” Dinoy so that justice will be served and his attackers will pay the price of their evil acts,” said the officers and members of the Tri-Media Association of Davao del Sur (TRIMADS). Though we are young, though we are still around two-years old from the time we were launched, I say we are fortunate because we did not start from zero. We were a campus of SPAMAST such that there wer...
