In the latest episode of Kapihan sa DavNor, guests Dr. Mervin Jay Suaybaguio, PICKMO Head; Board Member Roger Laguna, Committee Head for Information and Media Affairs; and Board Member Nicandro Suaybaguio; Committee Head for Education, discussed the struggles of the media practitioners in Davao Del Norte amidst the pandemic and honored them for their undying service to the people.
“ Daghan gyud kanila ang naglisod. Aside sa bokasyon gyud ning pagpanarbaho isip media practitioner, pero di gyud nato ikalimod nga naa gyuy uban nga gihimo gyud nilang source of income. Kato gyud sila ang pinakapapektado (A lot of them are struggling right now. Aside from the fact that being a media practitioner is a vocation, we really can't deny that there are some who made it a livelihood. They are the ones who were really affected)," said Dr. Suaybaguio.
"Naa tay kaubanan diri sa media nga print ang ilang platform nga gikan sa katong standard size nga tabloid, ang nahitabo Maam Jean nareduce sya into 1/4 nalang (We have a fellow here in the media who publishes standard-sized newspapers before, but now) they were reduced into 1/4 of their original size," he added.
Meanwhile, Laguna, who is also a former media man, underscored the importance of the media in promoting unity, peace, and progress in the community.
"Atong paningkamotan nga as a media, kita ang medium kundiin magkahiusa ug mahimong tinubdan sa kalamboan sa atong komunidad (Let us keep in mind that as media practitioners, let us become the medium to unite people and to foster progress in our communities)," Laguna's statement reads.
As the country is celebrating Press Freedom Month 2021 this October, Dr. Suaybaguio said that the Provincial Government of Davao Del Norte through PICKMO honors the contribution of the media in the society and therefore will give awards to media practitioners in the province and extend assistance to them.
"Ato gyud sila nga giisa-isa ug identify aron mahatagan nato ug pahalipay (We identified them one-by-one to give them tokens)," he stated. (PIA XI Davao del Norte/jmda/Ezri M. Coda, Jr.)
