ADDU satellite voter reg site gets 807 registrants

Retired basketball star Peter Jun Simon registers as a voter at the ADDU satellite registration site

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 26 (PIA)- The satellite voter registration site at the Ateneo de Davao University had about 807 registrants coming from the three districts in Davao City.

The one-day voters registration held Saturday (Oct  23) was organized in response to the request of the Mindanao Consortium of Ateneos (MCA) or the Ateneo schools in Mindanao to the Commission of Elections to open more satellite registration centers for voters who would want to register amid the October 30 deadline. The schools also volunteered to have their campuses as satellite voting centers, which Comelec positively responded.

Mark Paul Samante, chair of the Ateneo de Davao University’s Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC)  said they were expecting 800 registrants based on their pre-registration data.

He said the Ateneo de Davao is open to extending the satellite registration center if there are people who would want to register and if Comelec is open to extending the partnership.

“But as I talked to Comelec, next they will be focused on malls na daw,” Samante said.

Samante said the registration is part of the many activities of Blue Vote,  Ateneo’s electoral engagement organization.

“The Blue Vote currently is preparing for the voters education, electoral engagement initiatives, yan ang inaasikaso ngayong nang Blue Vote (That is what we’re focusing),” Samante said. (PIA/RG Alama)
