FB Leeward washed ashore along the shorelines of Tibanban, Gov. Generoso town
DAVAO CITY, Oct. 12 (PIA)- A total of 769 families mostly residents of coastal areas in the province of Davao Oriental were preemptively evacuated due to threat of a storm surge brought by Tropical Storm Maring over the weekend.
Maring which had maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour with gustiness of up to 105 km/hour carried strong winds, heavy rains and southwest monsoon-induced waves. On the evening of Oct. 10, an estimated 24 houses were partially damaged, they were located in the towns of San Isidro and Governor Generoso.
Most of the 769 evacuated families have returned home after it situation was deemed safe. During the onset of the storm the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) maintained close coordination with the Municipal Risk Reduction Management Offices of San Isidro and Governor Generoso for any needed augmentation.
In Barangay Tibanban, Municipality of Governor Generoso, a fishing vessel FB Leeward was washed ashore due to the huge waves caused by Maring. The vessel however remained intact, Philippine Coast Guard immediately responded on the residents' report of an oil spill which was ruled out after a subsequent investigation. (PIA/RG Alama)
