55.81% of Dabawenyos fully vaccinated

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA)- Davao City is inching its way into achieving COVID-19 herd immunity as 669,770 Dabawenyos (as of Oct. 9) are fully vaccinated which is equivalent to 55.81% of the city's population.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the focal person of Davao City’s Covid-19 Task Force said the numbers could go higher as vaccinations are still ongoing.

She said Davao City is targeting to achieve herd immunity by year end, which is 70 to 80% of the city’s population estimated at 1.2 million people.

Dr. Schlosser said that 66.08% (as of Oct. 9) or 792,932 individuals have already been vaccinated with the first dose.

To reach the herd immunity goal they are looking at several measures which include expanding Bakuna Nights or the nighttime vaccination. Schlosser said they are eyeing several malls in the city such as Abreeza, Gaisano Mall, SM Lanang, Gaisano Mall of Toril to host Bakuna Nights.

The Bakuna Nights aims to serve Dabawenyos who cannot go to daytime vaccination site due to their work.

The City is also looking at rolling out vaccinations during Saturdays and Sundays.

Also the ongoing mobile vaccinations undertaken by the City Councilors are also helping reach Dabawenyos residing in distant barangays.

Another ongoing measure is the vaccination at the Peoples Park where walk-ins are welcome. The park vaccination caters to people going for their first dose, second dose or those who have missed their scheduled dose.

Schlosser said that vaccines work as 70% of the 1,200 cases registered Oct. 3 to Oct. 9 are unvaccinated. Those vaccinated but stricken by Covid-19 are either asymptomatic or have experienced mild symptoms. (PIA/RG Alama)
