PIA chief cites three pillars of PRRD’s legacy

DAVAO CITY, Sept. 23 (PIA)- Infrastructure, ending local communist armed conflict and war on drugs/peace and order are deemed to be the backbone of President Duterte’s administration and is considered as its legacy says Philippine Information Agency head Undersecretary Mon Cualoping.

Usec. Cualoping was in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro on Tuesday (Sept. 21) to grace Pamana ng Pagbabago Information Forum.

In terms of infrastructure build-up under the Build, Build Build (BBB) program, the government had a record 5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) allocated for infrastructure Development.

"Over  the  past 5 years daghan tang makit-an tibuok pilipinas  dagko kaayo agn mga highways. Daghang bag-ong seaports, airports,bag-ong train. The golden age of PH infrastructure, nahimo na sa atong President Duterte (We saw across the Philippines very large highways, many new seaports, airports, new trains, the golden age of Philippine infrastructure done by our President Duterte)," Cualoping said.

Second of the backbone is ending local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) which through the government’s whole of nation approach it has began to solve the longest running insurgency.

“Thru the barangay development program niabot ang gobyerno sa pinakalayo nga lugar. Katong sauna walay suga ang isa a sitio, karon naa nay suga… naka adto ko sa Isa ka lugar sa lake sebu naka estorya nako IP sila.. imagine first nila makita ang ilang sud-an sa gabii.  Sa tibuok kinabuhi ngitngit  ang ilang gabii, karon nay suga (the government has reached the farthest locality, those sitios without electricity, now has lighting, I was able to go a place in Lake Sebu I was able to talk to their IP. Imagine it was their first time to see a light bulb at night. In all their lives their nights were dark now it has light), Cualoping said.

On war on drugs and peace and order, the government was able to attain a 64% reduction in crime volume over the past five years.

Usec Cualoping said that perhaps the greatest legacy would be COVID-19 response which sadly he said is being politicize.

“Ang kalaban sa president and kalaban sa gobyerno  moingon nga pangit ang atong response,   but we say nga atong response may not be  perfect pero okay siya (The critics of the President and the nation they say our response was bad. But we say our response may not be perfect but its okay.)," the PIA director-general said.

He said by looking at the numbers the long feared situation of what had happened in India did not happen. The vaccination program has inoculated more than 40 million people with different brands of COVID-19 vaccines. (PIA/RG Alama)
